Recently, TikToker Kaycee (@kaycee_not_anthony) shared a creepy story submitted by someone named Hanna from Asheville, North Carolina. Her story shows that haunted mirror friendships can continue across generations.
When Hanna was nine years old, her parents bought an old farmhouse off a county road in North Carolina. The house had many doors and a hallway that was somehow always colder than the other rooms. At the end of the hallway, there was a tall, narrow mirror built into the wall.
It was an original feature of the house. Hanna's mom loved the mirror, but Hanna hated it because of the little girl inside it. When Hanna was a kid, she would wave with her right hand.
The little girl in the reflection would wave back, but her hand always went up half a second late. Every time Hanna leaned up close to the mirror, the little girl's breath would fog up the glass before hers did.
"I told my mom, and she would just laugh," said Hanna. "She said that mirrors don't work like that...so I stopped telling her. Instead, I started talking to the girl in the reflection."
"I'd sit crisscrossed in the hallway after school, and I would tell her about my day, about the boy I had a crush on, and about how my dad was drinking again."
Hanna named the girl Ellie. They were best friends for almost a year. But everything changed one night when Hanna was 10 years old.
That night, she came down the hallway in her pajamas to brush her teeth, and Ellie was already there, waiting for her. Ellie wasn't smiling. She had a message for Hanna: do not go into the basement tomorrow. Hanna couldn't sleep all night.
The next morning, Hanna's dad came up from the basement, white as a sheet. The basement floor had partially collapsed, revealing an old cellar below.

If Hanna had been playing in the basement like she did every morning, there definitely wouldn't have been a happy ending.
Hanna ran to the mirror to thank Ellie, but she wasn't there. She cried for two days and wondered if she had been imagining Ellie. Her family moved out of the house when she was 16. On the last day, she went back to the mirror to say goodbye in case Ellie showed up.
Hanna finally saw Ellie again. They were both the same age. She begged Hanna not to leave her there. Now, Hanna is 32 years old with a husband and a baby girl. They live in a normal apartment with normal mirrors.
One day, her two-year-old daughter walked up to the mirror in their hallway and said, "Hi, Ellie." Hanna has no idea how her daughter learned the name Ellie.
