On February 23, 2024, TikTok user Rebecca (@unmuted.unapologetic) got confirmation that her husband was having an affair. She had been having suspicions since March of 2022 because that was when her husband’s behavior completely changed overnight.

She went from having a loving, caring husband to a distant one. They had been having some issues in the marriage, but he was still always present for the family before the affair.

“It was actually a relief to have someone finally contact me and to have confirmation that I wasn’t crazy because every time I would ask him about these weird little things that I was finding or discovering, he would do the gaslighting thing, which is what married men do when they’re having an affair,” said Rebecca.

They had weathered so many storms together, including raising five kids in a blended family and a financial crisis when he had absolutely nothing.

“It was just like storm after storm, so when that happens, and you don’t have a chance to catch your breath or ground yourself again, it’s really hard sometimes to repair a marriage that has a lot of little cracks and jinks in it if you’re not able to communicate,” she continued.

A lack of open communication was their biggest problem because men often aren’t taught to talk about their feelings. Instead, they are taught to push things aside and power through them.

His mistress reached out to her in February 2024 because she hadn’t heard from him in a while. Things were actually going better between Rebecca and her husband, so that was the time the mistress decided to blow things up.

Rebecca was at an interactive museum with her kids at the time. Her mom was also there in a wheelchair, and she had a bad knee and was in the beginning stages of dementia. So, she was trying to manage everyone when she noticed that she had a bunch of unread messages on her phone.

The mistress knew her name and number and wanted to have a conversation with her about something. Then, Rebecca received two more messages from the mistress’s friend, who was basically yelling at her for not picking up the phone and telling her that she needed to “do the right thing.”

“I’m standing here in the middle of a museum with my two children, and you’re calling me and yelling at me because you’ve been having an affair with my husband for two years, and suddenly you’re angry that he’s not coming around anymore, so you’re yelling at me? Make that make sense,” Rebecca said.

Rebecca and her husband are currently in the process of getting a divorce. The mistress kept trying to get in contact with Rebecca, but she ignored her because she had nothing to say to her.

The mistress even tried to threaten her into staying silent about her story by telling her to watch her back, but Rebecca will never not speak her truth, and she’s doing so in the most respectful way, without naming names or any identifying information.
