A woman has gone viral on TikTok for deciding to propose to her boyfriend of 14 years. In her video, TikToker Estella (@est.ellita) shared that she had been with her boyfriend for 14 years, but he still hadn’t proposed.
They also have four kids together and live at his parents’ house.
She really wanted to get married, so she flipped the script and took it upon herself to get down on one knee, even though she knew she would face a ton of backlash from the internet.
“I know what everybody’s going to think, and I already know what everybody’s going to say, but honestly, I don’t even care,” Estella said.
“I love him so much, and I know he loves me, and this is just something that I feel I have to do.”
She added that her boyfriend constantly says he wants to spend the rest of his life with her. She has had the proposal planned for about a month and will ask him to marry her on the anniversary of their first kiss under the tree in their front yard.
Their actual anniversary is at the beginning of December. Initially, she was going to propose at that time, but she felt like it was too expected, and she wanted the whole thing to be a surprise.
No one in her family knows what she has planned, except for her son. She will also be asking her boyfriend’s dad for his blessing.
In a follow-up video, she showed off the ring she would be proposing with. It was stainless steel, and she had it engraved with the words “Always and Forever,” which is the title of their favorite song as well. No matter the logistics, she is committed and is not letting tradition hold her back.

Of course, TikTok had a lot to say, and thousands of people shared their thoughts in the comments section.
Unsurprisingly, hardly anyone was in support of Estella’s proposal. The overwhelming sentiment was concern for Estella, while others poked fun at the idea.
“I’d rather paint my house with an eyelash,” commented one user.
“He’s not listening to you, sweetie. Men will move mountains for a woman he wants. You want a ring, proposal, wedding, house, dog, whatever!! Ask for it; if he loves you, he will do it,” wrote another.
“You are too pretty to have waited for a proposal for 14 years, then end up proposing yourself. Girl, you deserve better,” stated a third.
There’s nothing wrong with a woman proposing to a man. After all, it’s the 21st century. But in this situation, the main issue wasn’t the proposal itself.
It was the timeline. The relationship had lasted 14 years with zero indication that he wanted to move toward marriage, and the lack of commitment from her man is loud.
At the end of the day, it’s Estella’s relationship and her choice, but when the entire internet is screaming for you not to do something, it might be worth taking a pause before making such a big decision.
