The Appalachian Mountains are the one region in the U.S. that exists to terrify anyone who sets foot there. TikToker Kajsa (@kajsa.spooky.stor) is sharing a spooky story from someone named Lacey.
One day, when Lacey and her cousin, Lexi, were 17 years old, they convinced their parents to go camping together. They also invited Lexi’s friend, but she wasn’t able to make it. So, they packed their stuff and drove out to the woods.
“Lacey and Lexi have been camping before,” said Kajsa. “This is not their first time, and nothing suspicious has ever happened before, so they weren’t really worried about it.”
The first night went by without incident, but on the second night, Lacey awoke to the sound of footsteps outside the tent. She didn’t think anything of it and just went back to sleep. The same thing happened on the third night.
But on the fourth night, something else happened. Lacey started to hear the footsteps again. Lexi was sleeping soundly beside her, so she couldn’t be the culprit.
When Lacey peered outside the tent, she saw a shadow. She decided to pull the blankets over her face, ignore the thing, and go back to sleep.
Before she could settle into bed, she heard a clanking noise. There was nothing in the area she could think of that would make that kind of sound. The clanking grew louder and louder, almost as if whatever was out there wanted her to open the tent and come outside.
Of course, there was no way she was going out there, especially at that hour. So, she squeezed her eyes shut and willed it to go away.
Suddenly, she heard a faint voice call out her name, and it sounded exactly like her cousin. However, she knew it wasn’t really Lexi because she was right next to her.

Lacey continued ignoring the voice until it turned into a loud, screeching panic. By then, she was super freaked out and kept repeating the phrase, “If you see it, no you didn’t; if you hear it, no you didn’t.”
She grew up in Appalachia, and it was what her parents always told her.
Eventually, the voice faded, and the night was silent again. She fell asleep again but woke up to Lexi staring at her. The next day went on normally, and they didn’t bring up the incident until later that night.
Apparently, Lexi experienced something strange the previous night, too. She felt like she had been asleep, but not asleep at the same time.
She heard wind chimes and drumming, as if a ritual of some sort was being performed. She couldn’t move her body and had absolutely no control over her limbs. However, she did feel Lacey tapping her during the night.
Lacey began to tell her cousin what she experienced, but the sound of footsteps surrounded their tent all of a sudden. It sounded like a whole group of people was marching toward them from every direction.
The cousins were frozen in fear for a moment. Then, they jumped up and bolted. Suddenly, they saw Lexi’s friend, who hadn’t been able to come camping with them. She was smiling and standing right in front of them.
“Lacey turns to her cousin, her cousin turns to her, and her cousin just shakes her head aggressively like she’s terrified of her own friend,” said Kajsa.
“Lacey also said that there was something just uncanny about her, and she couldn’t put her finger on it.”
The friend took a step closer, causing them to take a step back. Her smile started bending and contorting, and her voice got super high-pitched.
The friend began screaming as if she were in pain. Lacey and Lexi took off running. When Lacey looked behind her, she saw that Lexi’s friend had transformed into a hideous creature.
It was chasing them on one arm and one leg and had multiple ears and mouths on its face. Lacey and Lexi crashed through the trees, not knowing where they were going.
Finally, they heard a honking and saw bright lights. A car slammed on its brakes a few inches away from them. They stopped and looked around, noticing that the creature was gone.
They collapsed on the ground, crying in relief. Luckily, the driver was a nice lady with her kids in the car, so she took the girls back to her house, so they could call their parents. Their stuff was still out in the woods, and they never went back to get it.
