Doctor’s visits during pregnancy are usually meant to be reassuring. It’s when mothers can get updates about their health and the baby’s development.
But for TikToker Brielle (@brielleglumac), a recent appointment left her feeling somewhat stunned after a nurse made multiple comments about her body.
Brielle is 30 weeks pregnant and was having a routine checkup at her OBGYN. The nurse who was attending to her that day was not her regular nurse. She started off by asking Brielle what medications she was taking.
When Brielle clarified that one of her medications was for asthma, the nurse rudely cut her off and told her that she was well aware of what it was for since she was a certified medical assistant (CMA).
After that, the nurse seemed to decide that she didn’t like Brielle.
When she was preparing to take Brielle’s blood pressure, she looked at Brielle’s arm and said that she would have to get the larger arm cuff because her arm was too thick to fit into the regular one.
Brielle had obviously gained some weight during her pregnancy, and she knew for a fact that she did fit into the regular arm cuff, but she didn’t say anything. But the comments didn’t stop there.
Once the nurse returned, she made another remark about how Brielle could knock people out with her thick arms. After all that, Brielle’s blood pressure was still fine.
Looking back, the entire moment seemed surreal.

“I just kind of thought I was being pranked a little bit,” said Brielle. “She works at an OBGYN, and she essentially called me a big back at 30 weeks pregnant.”
Several TikTok users shared their reactions in the comments section, with some encouraging her to report the incident to the clinic.
“A lot of times, it’s just people projecting their insecurities, queen. That’s so mean; I’m sorry,” commented one user.
“Girl, call the place back and tell the clinic about her behavior! Shaming moms, to me, means you don’t need to work in healthcare,” stated another.
“No, because this just [made me angry]. That’s absolutely inappropriate and fireable, or at least like a write-up, because you’re not allowed to be like this to someone who’s pregnant. Plus, everyone gains weight when they’re pregnant. That’s actually what’s healthy,” chimed in a third.
“I went to a doctor to look at a spot on my face. She barely glances at me and says, ‘You get those spots when you get old,’ and then launches into questioning my weight, workout schedule, and diet, and went on and on at length about needing to eat less and work out. None of that was pertinent to the spot on my face,” added someone else.
