Biting the hand that feeds you is never wise. Why would you be rude, ingrateful, or act out against someone who is kind to or supportive of you?
She’s been gifting her elderly neighbor loaves of freshly-baked bread, and after her neighbor angrily knocked on her door to complain about how much noise she was making while doing it, she no longer wants to give her bread.
This 26-year-old woman loves to make sourdough bread, and lately, she’s kicked things up a notch by making her own flour at home.
She bought a home grain mill, and it massively improves the quality of her loaves, though the process isn’t exactly quiet, since it involves grinding up grain.
“Because I live in an apartment, I try to be mindful of the noise. I only use it for a few minutes at a time, usually right in the middle of the afternoon, never early in the morning or late at night,” she explained.
“A few weeks ago, my older neighbor knocked on my door to complain about the grinding noise coming from my place. I apologized, explained what it was, and assured her I only run it for about five to ten minutes at most.”
“To smooth things over, I even brought her a freshly baked loaf of sourdough the next day. She told me they enjoyed it afterwards and thanked me for it.”
Ever since she gifted that loaf to her neighbor, she’s been coming over when she smells her fresh bread to see if she has any extra she can give away.
She enjoys sharing, and she has handed her neighbor two additional loaves throughout the last month. This past Saturday, she was milling grain at 2 p.m., and her elderly neighbor knocked on her door in a fury.

Her neighbor snapped at her for being so noisy and said she should quit milling grain. She informed her neighbor that this is something she has to do in order to bake her bread, and she cannot stop.
She did say to her neighbor that the grinding noise from the grain only lasts a couple of minutes, so it’s not like she’s being a nuisance.
“She then asked if I was baking today. When I told her I was, I also mentioned that since she still complains about the mill sounds after knowing what they help to create, I won’t bother giving her any more of the product from those sounds, the bread,” she continued.
“She is now telling other people in our building that I’m petty and unneighborly, and is threatening to complain to our landlord about the noise.”
“My significant other thinks I should have just given her a loaf to keep the peace, but I shouldn’t have to reward someone for complaining about a reasonable daytime activity.”
She’s left wondering if she’s a jerk for no longer wanting to share her bread with her rude neighbor.
Her neighbor literally bit the hand that’s been feeding her! If her neighbor is so upset about a couple of minutes of noise, no, she shouldn’t get to have any bread.
She’s being super respectful to not make noise at unreasonable hours, like at 5 a.m. or midnight, so her neighbor is definitely acting like a jerk.
