As a lawyer, TikToker Salma (@salmayourlawyerbigsis) has seen it all. This time, she is talking about a guy who created fraudulent bank statements, lied to his wife about his salary, and had a secret second family in another country.

For context, his parents moved from their native country to the United States before he was born. They obtained their citizenship through the naturalization process, and he had birthright citizenship.

Eventually, his parents moved the family back to their native country, but they sent him to college in the U.S. So, every summer, he would return home from college. While he was home one summer, he ended up marrying a woman, and they had a son together.

After he graduated from college, he got a very good job offer and decided to stay in the U.S. He told his wife that he would start the paperwork to bring her over so she could obtain U.S. citizenship. The paperwork was never completed.

Within the first few months of post-grad life, he met a woman at church. He married the woman and didn’t tell his wife back home.

He lied to his American wife about how much money he made so that he would be able to continue sending money to his family in his native country.

They had two kids together, and she became a stay-at-home mom with access to his credit card. She thought she was getting full financial transparency from him because they always talked about budgeting, long-term financial goals, and went over monthly bank statements. But in reality, he was altering the statements.

Since he traveled a lot for work, he would just take trips to his native country to see his other wife and kid. At some point, he seemed to be taking more and more business trips.

One day, his American wife video called him and realized that his background didn’t match where he said he was. She confronted him about it, and he denied everything and acted hurt that she didn’t trust him.

During tax season, she got the mail and decided to open up his W2 form. She discovered that his salary was twice the amount he had told her.

When he returned home, she kept questioning him about everything. None of his stories made sense, so she ultimately asked for a divorce.

During the process, he had to produce real bank statements, so she found out that he was sending money back home. He explained that he had sick parents and was trying to take care of them, but some of his purchases were from places like children’s stores, so things weren’t adding up.

It was clear that he was lying. Eventually, the truth came out that he had an older son.

“Basically, it’s just another cautionary tale because I think a lot of people are like, there’s just no way you wouldn’t know that your partner has a wife in another country, and that’s just like absolutely not true; it happens more often than you think,” said Salma.
