Some people hire a private investigator when they suspect their spouse is cheating. Others scroll through phone records, inspect receipts, and search social media for clues.
But according to a viral story that TikToker Avery (@averybrynn1) is retelling, one woman uncovered an alleged affair with nothing more than a homemade carrot cake and a little patience.
One day, a woman came home about 45 minutes early from work. She planned to watch a cooking show and flip through a magazine while she waited for her husband to return. He always got home from work at 5:15 p.m. every single day.
She walked into the house, expecting it to be empty, but she saw her husband talking to a female friend. She was standing at the kitchen counter, chattering away.
Of course, the woman tried to be cool about it, not wanting to seem like a jealous wife. The next day, her husband called to tell her that he would be staying late at work.
At first, she didn’t think much of it, but then she realized that something wasn’t right. Her husband worked at a place that didn’t like their employees working overtime.
So, she took matters into her own hands to figure out what was really going on. Instead of confronting her husband or making accusations she couldn’t prove, she decided to play the long game.
She went to the grocery store, bought some carrots, and baked a carrot cake as a thoughtful welcome gift for the woman who seemed to be spending an awful lot of time around her husband. She also wanted to get to know the woman better.
On the surface, it looked like a gesture of friendship. But beneath the frosting, it was a test. She took the cake over to the woman’s house, smiled, acted cordial, and went home.
About four hours later, she got a phone call from the hospital that revealed more than any confession ever could. Her husband was in the emergency room due to an allergic reaction to a carrot cake because he was allergic to carrots.
The only reason he would have been exposed to the cake at all was if he had been eating it at the woman’s house. The carrot cake erased any doubt that her husband had been spending time with another woman at her house.
In the comments section, many TikTok users defended the woman’s actions and praised her for uncovering a secret affair without having to ask a single question.
“She was just trying to do something nice. And if he is allergic, then you would think he would know what carrot cake is,” pointed out one user.
“I support any girl’s girl who makes heart-healthy snacks for their new friend,” stated another.
“I mean, clearly a girl’s girl. She just wanted to be friends and get closer. Nothing wrong with that,” commented a third.
