Three years ago, TikToker Jordan (@sincerelyjord) was brutally attacked by a dog and survived. At the time, she had been dating her now-fiancé for about 10 days.

They went on a trip to Florida to visit his brother. One night, after dinner and drinks, they went back to her now brother-in-law’s house.

Her brother-in-law’s girlfriend owned a Boerboel, the breed of dog that attacked her. Boerboels are a South African breed of large dog, often used as guard dogs. Jordan says she is lucky to be alive.

The attack was completely unprovoked. She was just sitting on the ground and playing with the dogs—a Boerboel and a chocolate Labrador—like everyone else was doing.

The next thing she knew, the Boerboel had latched onto her nose and was not letting go. Everybody was screaming, and the whole incident was extremely traumatic. The dog actually ate her nose.

She remembers looking down and seeing blood pouring out of her face. Somehow, she was in an eerie state of calm, while everyone else was panicking. She instructed them to take her to the hospital.

“I’m still not sure why exactly the dog bit my nose,” Jordan said. “Because if this dog were to be super aggressive to me, he would’ve killed me.”

“So, I don’t know if he was being playful or what the situation was. I also had a nose ring in at the time, so did he see something shiny and go bite at it?”

The Boerboel was still a puppy at the time, only about a year old. They had also been drinking, so Jordan had alcohol on her breath. She wonders if the dog had gotten freaked out by the smell of alcohol.

Following the attack, Jordan has been on a journey of visiting many different hospitals and surgeons to reconstruct her face. So far, she is three years in, and there is still more healing to come!

In the comments section, several TikTok users emphasized just how dangerous large dogs can be and described their own experiences with large dogs.

“I had a Boerboel. He was gigantic (owned mastiffs prior to him). When he was two, he started growling at my son, who was 18 months old at the time. That was it, fostered him to a new home. He could’ve killed him in one bite,” commented one user.

“I had a 180-pound Boerboel in my room as a vet tech once. He looked dead in my eyes and growled. So scary, and his owners thought it was funny that we were tentatively pulling blood on that dog. I refused to see him at the next visit, and they were banned for their rude behavior,” shared another.

“My ex-best friend had her entire scalp and calf muscle ripped off by a mastiff as well. It’s insane she’s alive. This is why I’m so wary of dogs who have the strength to do this,” added a third.
