Whoever said “secrets, secrets are no fun unless you share with everyone” wasn’t exactly on the right track, in my opinion. I think everything in life is rarely black and white, and it’s ok to keep certain secrets, especially if it prevents someone you love from being hurt.
You know, like the whole body count conversation: not a good topic to even get on with your significant other. Ever. Body count refers to the number of people you have had steamy relations with (in case you need a refresher), and honestly, I don’t think this is something you should ever disclose to your partner.
It can only be hurtful, not helpful, right? And most of us mere mortals spiral thinking about all the past partners our current one has had.
Now that I’ve gotten my two cents out of the way, let’s talk about this 30-year-old woman, whose 28-year-old boyfriend is ready to dump her over her body count, of all things.
They’ve been dating for five months now, and a week ago, her boyfriend’s best friend came to visit him. It was not a cute time for her, as her boyfriend’s bestie had some extremely toxic and unhelpful opinions he threw out there in regards to their relationship.
Who even asked this guy? Well, not her.
“First, he told my BF that I’m ‘hot’ and therefore will definitely cheat on him. Then, at my BF’s birthday party, he overheard a mutual friend and his girlfriend ask me if I wanted to go hiking with them the following weekend,” she explained.
“He apparently immediately went to my BF and said that he overheard them propositioning me, and that, since I expressed interest in going hiking, I was planning to cheat on him.”
She informed her boyfriend that she thought what his best friend was saying was completely absurd and not based in reality, but he didn’t exactly listen to her perspective.

Throughout the last couple of days, her boyfriend has been acting uneasy and pulling away from her. Yesterday, he demanded to know how many guys she’s slept with, but she declined to tell him.
She’s two years older than her boyfriend and has had plenty of romantic relationships. In contrast, he’s had one single girlfriend, whom he was with for a decade, prior to her entering his life.
“Anyway, today he told me that he feels physically ill thinking about how I have slept with other people and that he might need a break from our relationship,” she continued.
“I’m wondering if I should go ahead and tell him my body count? Or try to convince him that it doesn’t matter? Or should I just break up with him?”
“I feel both bad for him but also kind of disgusted that he cares about this and listens to his friend, who I now consider just a total creep… I also kind of wonder who he expects to date going forward with this kind of thinking…”
Oh, and by the way, her boyfriend’s best friend told him that he’s convinced she’s slept with hundreds of men, given how hot she is, which is what started this nonsense in the first place.
I just have a bad feeling about her relationship. Part of me suspects that perhaps her boyfriend is pushing for some time apart so he can sleep with other girls?
Either way, both her boyfriend and his bestie are wretched, and what girl needs that kind of male energy in her life? Nobody. Literally nobody.
Also, just for the record, it’s not just hot people that cheat; ugly ones do, too, so I fail to understand where her boyfriend’s best friend’s logic is coming from.
What advice do you have for her?
