When your spouse makes a chilling confession that shatters the image of who you thought they were in an instant, is there any path forward other than walking away forever?
This man has been married to his wife for a decade, but he was married once before her and has four kids with his ex. His wife has a daughter, J, from a previous relationship, and when they got married, they had one big blended family, so they chose not to have any kids together, as their house was full.
J is the only one who has been living with them lately, as two of his children are grown adults, and the other two mainly live with their mom but come over consistently.
One month ago, J (who he loves like his own) celebrated her second anniversary with her boyfriend, so they rented out a cabin.
“They booked it well in advance, and she told us ahead of time that the place required parental authorization for them to check in. I had no problem with it, but I noticed my wife seemed a little off,” he explained.
“I assumed she was just worried. After all, two teenagers going alone to a cabin in the middle of the woods sounds like the beginning of a horror movie.”
The day J was set to leave for her getaway, he was jolted awake by her screaming. He went to her bedroom and saw clothes all over her floor.
Her room was a disaster, and his wife was screaming at J that she was gross and lazy. J kept on asking his wife why she was doing that.
The fight got more heated, and his wife told J that if she did not clean up her room, she couldn’t go to the cabin. The mess was so great that there was no way J could pick it all up in time.

He sided with his wife, and J began shouting at the two of them while staring at his wife and asking her why she was doing it. He thought J was being rude, so he said she had to calm down or leave their home.
“She simply nodded and walked out. Honestly, I didn’t think she’d actually leave. We live in an apartment building, so she headed down the stairs. My wife chased after her, completely hysterical, screaming and trying to rip J’s phone out of her hands,” he added.
“They made it all the way outside, and I ran after them, completely horrified. My wife kept trying to take the phone because she was the one who had bought it for her.”
“At one point, J fell to the ground really hard. I still don’t know how she didn’t break anything. Two of her fingernails were ripped off, probably during the struggle over the phone. She was crying and kept saying, ‘Why are [you] doing this? You’re my mom.’
For the first time that day, my wife looked like she felt guilty.”
J got to her feet and was limping. His wife made her go back in the house, and his wife was quite silent for the remainder of the morning.
He did call her out for putting her hands on J, as she could have gotten injured worse than losing two fingernails. His wife returned J’s phone later on, but J had already lost her reservation on the cabin by then, along with some of her money.
His wife felt bad and booked J a cabin one of her friends owns. It wasn’t as nice as the one J was supposed to have gone to, and it did cost the same amount of money.
“J paid for it herself. My wife didn’t reimburse her. J went without saying a word, but I could tell she absolutely hated my wife at that point,” he said.
J just celebrated her 18th birthday, and one day beforehand, she got her own apartment and moved out. His wife did attempt to put a stop to it, but legally, J is an adult who can do as she pleases.
A couple of days ago, he and his wife went out for a date night, and out of the blue, she confessed to him that she had trashed J’s room before she left to go to the cabin.
His wife didn’t come clean because she was regretful; she just went on to say kids have to understand how life works and that life isn’t all about dating. She pointed out how she was not allowed to go out with her boyfriend when she was J’s age.
There was a hint of guilt, and since his wife was already admitting things after having a few drinks, he asked her some more questions.
“That’s when she admitted she’d sabotaged J on other occasions too, making her miss parties with friends, school trips, and other events,” he continued.
“When I told her she had been sabotaging her own daughter, she replied, ‘I’m teaching her. She’s too spoiled.’ Now I’m rethinking everything. Every time I remember J crying and asking, ‘Why are you doing this to me?’, I feel like walking away from my marriage.”
“I also feel sick thinking about how I practically threw her out of the house that day when she hadn’t done anything wrong. I had a terrible mother growing up, and now I’m seeing so many of those same traits in my wife. Honestly, I don’t know if I want to stay married to her anymore.”
Every parent has a bad day, but that’s not what his wife confessed to; she came clean about being one of the worst moms I have ever heard of in my life.
To go out of your own way to knowingly sabotage your own child is a depraved thing to do. He needs to not waste any more time on divorcing this psycho.
And if he wants to salvage his relationship with J, he should tell her what his wife said. His wife deserves to be alone for what she did to her poor kid.
What advice do you have for him?
