Sorority rush is already a test of emotional endurance, leaving even the most put-together person completely drained. For TikToker Abby (@gailthegirl), rush week at the University of Miami became much more overwhelming when she found out that her partner had cheated on her.
“Imagine getting the call that you had been cheated on in the suite while you’re recruiting girls, because that’s what happened to me,” said Abby.
“We’re just trapped in the suite for like 12 hours a day. I wasn’t getting much sleep. It was January, Miami of my junior year of college, and I was already down.”
Her relationship was not going well, and it hadn’t been for a while. She tried to put on a happy face for all the sorority girls, but behind the scenes, her life was a mess. The timing couldn’t have been worse.
During rush week, her partner, whom she had been dating for a long time, cheated on her. She received the news after a girl they both knew called her. She was a year older than Abby and also happened to be involved in Greek life.
“When I saw she was calling me, I knew it was going to be one of two things, but I knew in my stomach what it was,” Abby said.
“I was like, oh, she’s definitely asking something about recruitment because she was in a sorority, or he cheated on me.”
The girl stated that she hadn’t known the two of them were dating, which Abby thinks is a total lie. The worst part was that her partner never admitted to cheating and claimed that he didn’t even remember doing it, a response that only added insult to injury.
For a time, Abby remained civil and continued to talk to her partner anyway. But then, she found out about other activities he had been participating in.

She wrote him a five-page single-spaced email, telling him never to speak to her again.
In the comments section, several TikTok users shared similar stories about how they found out they had been cheated on during times when they didn’t have the space to fall apart.
Overall, their experiences highlight how women are often expected to perform and carry on as normal, even when their lives are crumbling into pieces.
“Twins for also finding out I got cheated on in the middle of rush,” commented one user.
“Oof, this happened to me during the work week, except I was also chapter president,” shared another.
“I also found out I got cheated on in December before my last semester, and broke up in February. Best semester of college I ever had. I went out every weekend and most weeknights I spent with my sisters and frats. He did me a favor doing that at the beginning of the semester,” added a third.
