Half a year into a relationship, you think you would pretty much know your partner inside and out. By that point, you’ve seen a lot of that person. You’ve probably met their friends, learned their habits, and had enough late-night conversations to feel like you really know who you’re dealing with.

Carrie thought she had her boyfriend figured out. He was kind, he was a great dad to his daughter, and everything pointed to him being one of the good ones.

And then one evening over drinks, he opened his mouth and completely blew up everything she thought she knew about him.

A woman named Carrie, who goes by @cwhite395 on TikTok, dumped her boyfriend for making an insane comment about women and the forefathers of America.

The Founding Fathers lived approximately 250 years ago, so the entire world was a whole lot different back then, and when our country first started out, women were considered the property of a man. I just wanted to set the stage here before we dive into Carrie’s relationship.

Now, Carrie spent six months dating a man who was truly wonderful. Also, he was a girl dad, so Carrie figured he had to be pro-women.

One Friday night, they were out having an amazing time, and Carrie was sitting there sipping on her espresso martini (she has good taste), when her boyfriend made an absolutely crazy comment.

“He says to me that women should not get to vote because that’s how the forefathers intended it,” Carrie explained in her video with a laugh.

“Of course, I walk home. I was like…my head spun and exploded and I walked home. I was seething all morning, and he was sleeping on the couch, and I went to go get my coffee, and I looked at him, and I was like, ‘I hate you.'”

“I got my coffee, and he was like, ‘Baby!’ And I was like, ‘You said women shouldn’t get to vote. You said the forefathers.'”

Instead of backtracking, apologizing, or changing his tune, Carrie’s boyfriend doubled down and insisted that the forefathers wanted things to be that way, so he supported it.

And that’s how Carrie ended up dumping her boyfriend, and she thinks it makes for a hilarious breakup story.

While everyone is entitled to their opinions, there’s a difference between having a take that’s a little out there and genuinely believing that half the American population shouldn’t have a say when it comes to their own democracy. Yikes!

Carrie gave her boyfriend every opportunity to walk it back, laugh it off, or at least pretend he was joking, and at that point, what else is there to say?

The “girl dad” assumption is also a good reminder that having daughters doesn’t automatically make someone a champion for women. And sometimes, the things people say at the end of a fun night after a cocktail or two reveal some ugly truths.

Is there a single comment or opinion that would be an immediate dealbreaker for you in a relationship, no questions asked?
