Most people, when they ask someone out, have at least a passing interest in the person they invite. Most people. TikToker Megan, who goes by @meganmoorr, found herself on a boat date that threw that assumption right out the window, and into the water.
So, let’s set the stage: Megan got invited to go on a date with a guy who said they could hang out on a boat, and she could also meet his friends.
Megan was looking forward to learning more about him while getting to know his inner circle, so she said yes. She met this guy at his friend’s house for the date, as the boat was owned by his friend and docked at the house.
The boat was beautiful, Megan climbed aboard, and was introduced to all the guy’s friends and girlfriends, who were already there. There was also a girl on the boat who was friends with everyone and not in a relationship.
On the boat, the guy wasn’t really chatting with Megan since he was invested in his friends. They parked the boat at a sandbar, and Megan’s date was busy speaking to that one single girl.
Megan thought it was strange, but she was trying to make the most of the date. The guy continued to give Megan the cold shoulder, so Megan figured he maybe hadn’t seen the single girl in a while and was catching up with her.
They drove off to the location of a second sandbar, and Megan was still being ignored, so she kept on hanging out with his friends instead.
“All of a sudden, he and this other girl who’s friends with the group kind of disappear,” Megan explained in her video.
Megan spotted them on the shore, and she saw them hooking up! It finally dawned on Megan why this guy was so infatuated with this girl. Obviously, he was into her.

Megan didn’t understand why he asked her on the date if he knew this other girl was going to be on the boat. The guy’s friends saw the hookup happening, and they started apologizing to Megan like crazy for his behavior.
The guy’s friends said that he had been going on and on all week about how thrilled he was about the date, so they were as shocked as Megan.
At that point, Megan just wanted to get back to the dock and get out of there. The boat ride back was awkward to say the least, and once they all got off the boat, this guy hardly said a word to Megan.
Megan went home, this guy texted her, and she called him out for acting so rudely to her, especially on a date. She didn’t expect to hear from him after that, but he spent the next three years asking Megan out and saying he wanted to really see her.
The sheer boldness of inviting someone on a date, hooking up with someone else in plain sight, and then spending three years hoping to get another chance is honestly something else.
At least his friends had the decency to be embarrassed on his behalf, because this guy clearly wasn’t going to get there on his own. I think Megan handled this with more grace than most people would have.
She made the best of an awkward situation, called him out when it was over, and didn’t let one spectacularly bad date ruin her day more than it had to. As for him continuing to pursue her for three years afterward? That’s equal parts baffling and exhausting.
