Childhood memories involving grandparents are usually about fun sleepovers, homemade meals, and freshly baked cookies. But for one guy, a visit to his grandparents’ house became the setting of a terrifying near-death experience that still shocks anyone who hears about it years later.
In the mid-nineties, when TikToker @bitteraffiliate was eight years old, his grandma tried to off him and his little brother, who was six years old.
At the time, their parents went on vacation for the first time since they were born. They left them with @bitteraffiliate’s dad’s mom, which they were already uneasy about because she was violent. She liked to drink and smoke a lot.
“She also liked to pop things in her mouth and just sit in this chair all day with one of those long ashtrays,” recalled @bitteraffiliate.
“She had an open window behind the TV. The TV always had The Price is Right going, and then she just stared out the window and looked at the TV and puffed.”
He added that she would wear a diaper, so she didn’t have to get up during the day. She did not struggle with incontinence. She chose to wear a diaper.
Despite their concerns, his parents dropped him and his brother off with their grandma. Before leaving for their vacation, his parents went over the bedtime schedule and what to feed them throughout the week.
While they were going over everything, their grandmother told the boys to go help their grandfather, who was working in the little woodworking station in the garage attached to the house.
So, they ran out to see their grandpa, excited to spend time with him. At that moment, their mom looked out the window and saw their grandfather pulling out a basket of rags that was on fire.
He started shouting at their grandmother, which was definitely out of the ordinary because, according to @bitteraffiliate, he was the kindest person he had ever known.
His grandpa had emphysema and had to have half a lung removed. Because of his health, his grandma kept telling him that he needed to stop smoking, even though she was still smoking all the time.
Come to find out, she had doused the entire garage in kerosene, including the spot where he worked with his power tools. She was waiting to catch him in the act of smoking, which would cause the garage to go up in flames while @bitteraffiliate and his little brother were there. That’s certainly one way to teach someone a lesson!
“She literally was going to off me, my brother, and my grandfather, to prove a point that my grandfather was still smoking while she was smoking a cigarette,” said @bitteraffiliate.
