If you were really struggling with your mental health, only to have your spouse say you should be put down over it, would you want to leave them?
This 35-year-old woman just gave birth three weeks ago to her third child with her husband, and she is really having a hard time with postpartum depression.
On top of that, she didn’t have a car that worked for the majority of her pregnancy, so she’s been out of work for the last year. She has been experiencing medical problems that prevented her from holding down a job, so her husband has been the breadwinner.
However, her husband puts all of the money he makes in a bank account that she does not have access to, and he gives her a set amount from there.
“So it’s just been a difficult situation; [I have] even [been] thinking about leaving. But today has been a particularly rough day, and I just can’t sleep,” she explained.
“I feel really messed up right now over the fact that I told him I was going to have to go into the hospital because I’m just struggling…said I…[am] feeling bad and I’m also having hip problems because I fell over due to something during an argument, and he said I am a ‘psycho,’ and he said, ‘I hope they put you down like a dog.'”
“These aren’t like normal things people say out of anger, right? And I’m not being overly needy to expect support and not to be treated this way, right? Or am I the problem? I just feel really messed up right now and alone…”
Her husband has spent years saying things like this to her, and it’s eroded their marriage. Her husband’s hurtful words have also made her not want to be nice to him anymore. She’s actually grown to resent him.

But over the latest things he’s said, she’s left wondering if she’s being too dramatic to still feel so devastated.
Talk about kicking someone when they’re down! Her husband is really a horrible human being to be so cruel to her when she’s having such a hard time.
It sounds like he’s been pretty terrible for a while if she was already having thoughts of leaving, and this should be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. Time for her to move on, call a divorce lawyer, and leave her husband.
What advice do you have for her?
