If your dad tried to make you cover for his affair, would you deal with it in private, or blast him on social media while exposing him for what he is?
Four years ago, this 22-year-old girl’s 48-year-old dad married her 43-year-old stepmom, Sarah. Sarah has a 19-year-old daughter named Maia from a previous marriage.
She has always disliked Sarah and Maia, as they are both nasty and entitled. When she tried to stand up for herself, she was accused of being rude to them.
She was not interested in living like that, so she moved out of the house at 18. Several months ago, her house had to get some repairs done, and her dad invited her to move back in while construction was happening.
Now, her dad has always spoiled Maia and gone out of his way to do kind things for her. But when she landed back in her dad’s house, she couldn’t help but pick up on a weird vibe between the two of them.
“They were always whispering, sitting [in my opinion] weirdly close, and running ‘errands’ together that would take several hours,” she explained.
“I wasn’t trying to think too much into it because this is a woman my dad has known since 14, and [has been] his stepdaughter for 4 years. Last weekend, I went to their house to grab my camping supplies I had left while crashing there.”
“It was midday, and everyone was supposed to be at work/school. I walked in the house and saw my dad and Maia on the couch. They weren’t sitting apart; they were full-on kissing, hands everywhere, just a full makeout session. It was actually disgusting, but I pulled out my phone, took a video just in case I needed proof.”
She walked up to the couch to confront her dad and Maia, who were far too busy to even see what she was doing. Maia burst into tears and ran off to her bedroom.
Her dad flipped out on her and said it was one big misinterpretation. But then he argued that Maia is an adult, before insisting it was not what it all looked like.
From there, her dad mentioned that he would disown her if she ever told anyone about their affair. She was livid with her dad for trying to manipulate her like that with a threat.
“While I can’t stand Sarah, cheating is vile, and I wasn’t going to let my dad bully me into keeping his sick secret. This is where maybe I might be the [jerk]…in a fit of rage, I posted the video to my Instagram and Facebook, tagging both of them,” she added.
“Within an hour…my phone was blowing up from both sides of my family (my mum’s side more just for the tea), and my dad and Maia sending me nasty texts to get me to take it down.”
“I went to shut my phone off because I just couldn’t deal with all the calls and texts, but Sarah called me. I told her everything I had noticed while I stayed there and what happened when I walked in on them. The next day, Sarah kicked my dad and Maia out, and is going to be filing for divorce.”
Her dad and Maia have been living in a hotel room together since getting kicked out of the house. Maia has since blocked her on everything, and she doesn’t care about that.
Her whole family doesn’t quite agree with what she did, as some of them applaud her for exposing her dad and Maia, while the rest of them think she’s malicious.
The family members who don’t like what she did believe she took an opportunity to embarrass Maia and Sarah in public since they were always mean to her.
Her dad has been blowing up her phone, saying she ruined his reputation, marriage, and life over a grudge. She thinks every cheater deserves to be outed; however, she is curious if she took it too far putting her dad and Maia on the internet instead of privately sending the evidence to Sarah.
I wonder how long this thing between her dad and Maia has been going on, and her dad is absolutely a creep who preyed on her stepsister.
By posting that video publicly, she took away her dad’s leverage, destroyed his ability to lie, and forced him to face the immediate consequences of his own actions. I don’t see anything wrong with that.
If she was only out to humiliate Sarah for her past behavior, she never would have accepted her phone call and filled her in on all of the details.
She needs to tell all of her loved ones who oppose what she did that she abhors cheaters and that her dad threatened her into keeping his affair a secret.
