Wait Just A Minute, Anne Hathaway Hates To Be Called By Her Real Name
Anne Hathaway went on The Tonight Show this week, and she dropped a major bomb on all of us while she was on the show.
It turns out, Anne absolutely hates to be called by her real name, and here’s how this all came about.
Jimmy Fallon kicked things off by saying to Anne that he has heard a lot of people call her “Annie” and he then asked her which one she preferred.

“Call me Annie…everybody, everybody, call me Annie, please…” she insisted after Jimmy popped the name question.
“It’s…can we talk about my name for a second? Can we…really…let’s spill the tea,” she continued.
Although she hates being called Anne, it’s something that has stuck with her since she made a pretty key decision at 14-years-old.
“When I was 14 years old, I did a commercial, and I…had to get my SAG card and they asked me, ‘What do you want your name to be?'”
“And I was like, ‘Well, it should be my name….my name’s Anne Hathaway.’ So that seemed like the right choice but it never occurred to me that for the rest of my life, people will call me Anne.”
There really only is one single person who calls her Anne anyway.
“The only person who calls me Anne is my mother, and she only does it when she’s really mad at me…like really mad,” Annie clarified.
“So…every time I step out in public and someone calls my name I think they’re going to yell at me.”
Annie went on to say that while she’s on set for films, people don’t want to be “presumptuous” and aren’t even that comfortable with calling her Anne anyway, so they develop some other names for her.
Some of the other nicknames she’s gathered along the way include “Hath” and “Ms. H.”
