Her Friend Showed Up To Her Wedding And Gave Her Back The Wedding Present She Got For Her As Her Wedding Gift

A woman has a close friend named Jane whom she’s known since before Kindergarten, and Jane has been there for a lot of tough stuff in her life.
Since Jane has been such a wonderful friend to her for so many years, she didn’t think twice about spending more than $4,000 on Jane when she got married (which actually was costly for her).
Jane got married in Spain, so she had to spend $2,500 for her and her plus one to get there. But before that, Jane decided to have her bachelorette party on a cruise ship to the Caribbean, which cost her $1,000 to attend.
For the day of Jane’s wedding, she had to spend $200 for makeup and hair, and her bridesmaid dress cost $300.
Those weren’t the only things she spent money on for Jane’s wedding since there were other dinners and activities they went to for Jane’s bachelorette party, and she also bought Jane a present for her bridal shower.
“Jane works in finance and does well, making x times what I do at a non-profit,” she explained. “So I’ll admit I was a bit annoyed she didn’t offer to pay for things like the bridesmaid dress and hair/makeup, but I never once mentioned it to her.”
“I know I didn’t have to go to everything, but I did have a good time. For her bridal shower, I got her a Le Creuset oven. For her wedding gift, I gave $200 cash in a distinct envelope.”
“We live in NYC. When it came time for my wedding, I kept things simple, since it’s still the pandemic.”
She decided to forgo having a bridal shower and a bachelorette party. She found the perfect venue for her wedding that was outdoors and airy, and it was only a one-hour train ride away.

She also did not force any of her bridesmaids to buy specific dresses or shell out hundreds for their makeup and hair.
When her wedding day arrived, she was extremely stressed out since her family and her husband’s family were picking apart everything about the wedding.
Many of her guests then made jokes about how it was so far for them to travel from Manhattan to upstate New York, but when these people got married, she had to travel to extremely exotic places for them.
Hawaii, Goa, and Mexico City are just some of the places her loved ones got married in, and in comparison, sitting on a train or in a car for one hour is easy.
She tried to not let all the comments bother her, but then Jane weighed in on how this was far to travel, which annoyed her.
Remember, Jane got married in Spain, and she had to make that long trip for her.
Anyway, dinner began, and she and her husband got up from the table to go snap a few photos in the photo booth that they had there.
As they were taking photos, Jane approached her so that she could give her a wedding present.

“It was the $200 cash I gave her at her wedding, in the same envelope and all,” she said. “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and froze at first.”
“She said it’s a joke, something about how she was giving friends their gifts back to “even the score.”
“I kinda lost it then and said “WTF, this is so disrespectful! Also, I spent $4-5k for your wedding. I don’t need you to give me anything, but how could you even begin to think that this ‘evens the score’?”
“She then tried to retract what she said and I do think she felt bad, but I was so angry that I didn’t hear the rest of what she said. I gave her back the envelope, which she later put into the pile.”
Since her wedding day, she has not said a lot to Jane at all. Additionally, she let Jane know that if they were going to stay friends, Jane owed her an apology and Jane also needed to come get that envelope back.
Although she did make this all clear to Jane, Jane hasn’t had any interest in doing either of the things she asked her to do for the sake of saving their friendship.
Now, a lot of the friends that she and Jane share are aware of what happened at her wedding, and they’re not all on her side.
Around 50% of their friends believe she freaked out for no reason and does owe Jane an apology, but she won’t do that.
“…I felt Jane nearly ruined what was supposed to be the happiest day of my life,” she concluded.
