She Was Born With Facial Palsy And Gets Bullied For How She Looks, So Her Mom Is On A Mission To Help Her Get The Smile Of Her Dreams

Glenwood, Iowa. Liberty is a teen girl who was born with facial palsy, though doctors had no idea what the cause of this was.
Liberty’s mom Dusty was informed that the facial palsy may have been caused by a tumble she took down some stairs days before Liberty’s birth, or it may have been due to another thing entirely.
Whatever the cause was, after Liberty’s birth, doctors and her family were not exactly sure what her life would entail.
There was nothing that could be done to help with Liberty’s facial palsy until she turned 13-years-old and could start with shock therapy.
Shock therapy was the sole possibility to help her, and it was an extremely painful process for Liberty to undergo, without any promise of working, so her family let her choose to do this or not.
Liberty chose not to, and she was completely comfortable in her own skin.
“Fast Forward to Middle School, hormones, anonymous messages, and teenagers had finally started to weigh heavy on Liberty,” Dusty wrote on a GoFundMe page.
“She was called half-melt face, slit mouth, and sent the song crooked grill and told that it reminded them of her. And it was all done Anonymously!”

So, Dusty decided to do more research on treatment options for Liberty, and she learned about a surgery that could be done to recharge facial nerves.
Liberty underwent the surgery, but unfortunately, the results were not what everyone had been hoping for.
“When she woke up, I had to tell her that not only was the surgery unsuccessful but she had no nerves or muscles in the right side of her face at all and there was nothing else they could do,” Dusty explained.
“She was super optimistic and saw changes that I couldn’t see. I was so proud of her optimism and the support that she received.”
Heartbreakingly enough, right after Liberty’s surgery, she received a slew of hateful anonymous messages saying awful things about her appearance.
“With that being said, Liberty’s Mental Health took a huge tumble,” Dusty said. “She was a mess and momma was pissed. We went through everything to find out who it was.”
“We have leads and lots of people working on it but as of now, nothing is confirmed as they were not big enough to show who they were and hid behind an anonymous app.”
Dusty kept pushing to find a solution to help Liberty have the smile of her dreams, and she finally found a very exciting possibility. A plastic surgeon located in Beverly Hills is willing to accept Liberty as their patient, and this surgeon is highly specialized in facial palsy.
Liberty’s insurance won’t cover the costs for her to see this surgeon though, so Dusty is now working to raise the money to pay for it so Liberty can have that smile she’s always wanted.
If you would like to help Liberty get her surgery, and the smile she’s dreaming of, you can do that here.
