She spent several days in the Intensive Care Unit and has required various surgeries to remove multiple crushed skull fragments, replace the skull with titanium plates, and stop the bleeding from her head and face.
It’s unbelievable the amount of recovery time, and rehabilitation Nicole will need to go through to come back from this senseless act of violence, let alone her heart condition.

On a personal note: Although I have no idea what motivated the attacker to perpetrate on Nicole, I wonder if the man looked at her and assumed she was a good target because she seemed so relaxed and happy.
I could be entirely off, but it made me think on a larger scale about how people judge people based on how they look. I don’t mean this from a racial or ethnicity standpoint, but instead an emotional or physical view.
If I saw Nicole lying on her hammock, I would have no idea of the hell she went through to be alive and stay alive every day. I would have no idea she was worried about not waking up that morning or how she would afford a heart transplant in 9 years if she were lucky enough to live that long.
So many people mistake a smile for happiness and prosperity. Nicole’s smile was just because she was happy to be alive. Someone almost took that away from her. They literally beat the smile from her face. I pray she’ll have it again someday. Life is too short for this bull.
