She Told Off Her Mom For Making Her Rehearsal Dinner All About Herself

A 20-year-old woman has not historically gotten along nicely with her 38-year-old mom, and she frequently has found herself in disagreements with her mom.

Her mom gave birth to her back when she was only 18, so her mom spent all of her life acting like “the cool mom” instead of acting like the adult she really needed.

As she became older, she came across the realization that she had to be more like the mom of her own mom.

Her mom then got introduced to her stepdad, and her mom’s behavior really did improve from there. Her stepdad did a lot to help her mom finally grow up, though her mom is still pretty immature.

Currently, she’s about to be married, and several evenings ago, she naturally invited her mom to her rehearsal dinner.

She was shocked to see that her mom walked into the dinner wearing a deep, dark, purple gown, especially since she bought her mom a light-colored pink dress to wear that night.

“I was a little annoyed, as I spent money on her dress and she’d agreed to wear it, but asked to talk to her after the party so I could sort it out,” she explained. “Maybe she didn’t like the dress or it stained, I’d thought.”

The other issue she had with her mom’s purple dress is that it made her think back to her childhood when her mom created a “dream wedding board” and everything about it was that exact shade of purple that her mom wore to her rehearsal dinner.

As the evening wore on, her mom kept drinking, and then it was time for her mom to get up and make a speech.

Her mom was plastered, and couldn’t even walk properly. She had not seen her mom drinking as much as she had, and she quickly knew things were about to go south from there.

Her mom began making her speech, and the entire thing was all about her mom instead of about her and her upcoming special day.

“She crafted a speech mostly compiled of ideas for her dream wedding and how it is “such a shame” she’d never gotten to experience it (almost quoting her: this is what my dream wedding would’ve looked like. Except I had thought I would be getting mine first),” she said.

“At the end, she added a little “I’m so happy for you” but by that time I was absolutely fuming.”

All of her guests were basically quiet, though a couple of her guests began laughing at what her mom had just said.

“I pulled my mother aside while my maid of honor softened the situation, and I yelled at her for her speech,” she continued.

“I told her it was completely inappropriate for her to discuss her dreams at my wedding, while she wept into her hands and talked about how evil and selfish I am.”

“She said I had no right to talk to her like that as she’s raised me all of my life, and has the right to make her speech about her experiences. I told her off and called in my stepdad to pick her up.”

Her mom has not said a single word to her after the rehearsal dinner, and she’s still wildly upset about what happened.

Her wedding is quickly approaching, and she knows she needs to work things out with her mom before that day arrives.

She did speak to her stepdad, who believes that she owes her mom an apology for being mean to her.

Her stepdad thinks it was only the alcohol talking, and that she should have prevented her mom from doing a speech if she wanted to ensure everything went smoothly.

She does agree that in hindsight, she was a bit rude to her mom, though she’s convinced the situation was really bad and she was not being overdramatic in her reaction.
