After Buying Lunch One Day Exactly 6 Years Ago, This 16-Year-Old Completely Vanished In A Puzzling Way
It was exactly 6 years ago today when 16-year-old Mekayla Bali vanished from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, which is located in Canada.
Mekayla’s family says that she loves nature, music, reading, and her two younger siblings. She is shy and kind, and her disappearance has turned their lives upside down.
On April 12th, 2016, Mekayla woke up and got ready to go to school, as she did every single day.
Her family knows that she did get to school that morning, but when the school day was done and Mekayla’s grandma arrived at school to pick up her, Mekayla was not there like she was supposed to be.
Mekayla’s grandma alerted her mom Paula to the situation at hand, and Paula rushed right down to Mekayla’s high school.
When Paula couldn’t find her at school and couldn’t get a hold of her on her phone, she ran back home to see if Mekayla had perhaps dipped into the emergency savings she kept in their house, which Mekayla easily was able to use if she wanted to.
Seeing that the money was untouched, Paula knew in her heart that Mekayla didn’t just run away from home; something terrible had to have happened to her. That’s when Paula called the police.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police started investigating Mekayla’s disappearance. Although they could confirm that she did go to school that morning, she did not make it to her classes.

Instead, Mekayla left school and walked to a local bank. From there, she went to a Tim Hortons, went back to her school, left her school again, and bought lunch at Trail Stop Restaurant, which is in the STC Bus Depot Building.
After Mekayla bought lunch at the Trail Stop Restaurant, she left the bus stop at around 1:45 in the afternoon, and that’s when she vanished, though she did not get on a bus and leave town.
At some point during the day, Mekayla did text one of her friends to say that she was in need of help, but then she told this friend to forget about it since she “figured it out.”
The day after her disappearance, her phone was completely turned off and she was no longer active on social media.
“Mekayla’s disappearance has had a great impact on Mekayla’s younger brother and sister who continue to require counseling to help them through this nightmare,” Paula said on a GoFundMe page.
Mekayla certainly disappeared in the most puzzling way, but her mom Paula has not given up looking for her even though it’s been 6 years without any real leads or indication as to where Mekayla really went.
“For those who knew Mekayla, she is a beautiful, talented, caring young lady,” Paula wrote on a Facebook page for her daughter.
“I believe Mekayla is a victim of a crime. I am desperate to ensure that she is safe.”
At the time of her disappearance, Mekayla was 16-years-old, 114 pounds, and 5’2″. She has long, dark blonde colored hair and bright blue eyes, with a dimple on her chin.
