A 19-year-old girl first started out as friends with her boyfriend, Dan, but over the last 6 months, they decided to start dating one another.

Prior to her entering a relationship with Dan, she dated a guy named Jacob, who sadly passed away about a year before she began seeing Dan.

She was just 17 when Jacob passed away, and it broke her heart to lose him. She wound up depressed for 5 months after she lost him.

“I didn’t want to eat, I didn’t want to socialize, nothing,” she explained. “All I wanted to do was sleep.”

“Dan tried to help me out of this depressive period and with his, my family’s, and my therapist’s help, I started getting back to normal again.”

“A few months later he asked me out. I warned him about the fact that my feelings for Jacob had not faded yet.”

Dan was alright taking things slow and he just wanted her to find happiness. Dan did try to ask her out on a date several times after she turned him down, and she finally said yes.

She agreed to go on a date with Dan 2 months after he first asked her out, and she did feel selfish for moving on.

A couple of weeks ago, she and Dan hung out with some of their friends. They all went out to dinner together and then picked a movie to watch.

When the movie ended, she felt her eyes closing and she fell asleep right there on Dan’s shoulder. Dan later was able to drive her home, and when they arrived, she finally awoke.

She said goodnight to Dan, and everything appeared to be fine between them, but it wasn’t.

Dan had asked her if she wanted to go home while she was still sleeping on his shoulder, and she called him by Jacob’s name instead of his own, yet she had no recollection of that.

She found out about what she had done the very next day when one of her friends mentioned that she wanted to speak to her about an issue.

She called up her friend, wanting to know what has wrong, and her friend accused her of being a terrible person to have called Dan by Jacob’s name in front of all of their friends.

Again, she didn’t remember having done that the night before, and her friend pointed out that Dan was so hurt by her calling him Jacob that he was on the verge of tears.

“She’s one of the newer friends in our friend group so she has no idea that Dan, Jacob, and I were really close friends and that Jacob died,” she said.

“I told her it was a personal thing and that I would explain it later. She said, “whatever, I don’t care, I just think Dan deserves better than that.”

She does refer to Jacob as her ex-boyfriend instead of her late boyfriend, as many of her loved ones have insisted that it’s not considerate to refer to Jacob in that way.

Anyway, as soon as her friend brought it to her attention that Dan was left feeling hurt over her honest mistake, she immediately called Dan to say sorry.

Dan said that he was fine with her slip-up, though he did acknowledge that it made him feel bad.

She’s still left wondering if she’s some kind of a jerk for accidentally calling Dan, well, Jacob. What do you think?
