When TikToker Robin (@softhearthardexit) discovered that her husband at the time was cheating on her, she realized that she had stayed in the marriage for 27 years too long.

A year ago, her ex-husband went to her sister for marriage advice, and it turned out to be the best gift she could have received. Robin and her then-husband had been having marital problems for quite some time, but they started getting worse.

So, he would go to her sister’s house, and after he left, Robin would come over. He would call Robin and tell her that he wanted to make the marriage work, and he was talking to her more than he had talked to her in years.

“When we weren’t on the phone having conversations, he was talking with my sister,” said Robin. “Not only was he talking with her, but he was lying to her while asking her for advice.”

“Well, if you want advice from somebody, it’s probably a good idea to tell them the whole truth, not just the parts that make you look squeaky clean and a victim.”

Unbeknownst to Robin and her sister, he was out gallivanting with his new fling for months. Robin didn’t find out about it until the day before Christmas Eve.

He was staying in Robin’s sister’s house, lying to her, and having fun with another woman behind her back.

On the day before Christmas Eve, Robin’s ex-husband was out grabbing some stuff from the dollar store for her and getting ready to take her to the airport so that she could spend Christmas with her dad in Michigan.

He left his phone behind while running errands, and it dinged. A voice in Robin’s head told her to pick up the phone and check it.

She saw a Facebook message from someone they used to work with years ago. Her husband had deleted all the messages up until October 28. That was when Robin had signed a lease for a condo so they could live separately while working on their marriage.

So, Robin’s ex-husband figured he was safe and didn’t feel the need to delete his messages. He also didn’t bother changing the password on his phone.

“Well, you can best believe when I’m reading through, my hands are shaking,” said Robin. “I am literally on the verge of flipping my wig, but none of that is going to stop me from taking screenshots because I know how this works.”

“Later on, when we talk about it, he’s going to try to downplay it. He’s going to say that I’m exaggerating. But I got screenshots, and even with the screenshots, he tried to tell me there was nothing.”

The discovery was the best Christmas gift that Robin had ever received because it freed her from a miserable marriage. He had done something beyond the point of no return, and that was exactly what she had needed to let him go and move on with her life.

Once she had processed everything, she filed for divorce and left him.
