She Was Brutally Honest During Her Maid Of Honor Speech And Her Best Friend Thinks It Ruined Her Wedding

Two Saturdays ago, a woman’s best friend from childhood had a wedding, and she wasn’t exactly thrilled about her best friend’s happily ever after.
Her best friend’s husband is a man that she feels she knows quite well at this point, and her best friend has been with him for 7 years.
Although she says her best friend’s husband is nothing but “lovely” and takes excellent care of her best friend, she is not a fan of him.
As soon as her best friend fell more in love with the man she now calls her husband, her relationship with her best friend was never the same.
She always knew that this is how it would go; her best friend obviously has to prioritize her husband over their friendship, but that doesn’t mean it hurts any less.
She’s been furious with her best friend for no longer making her the biggest priority and that all came out at her best friend’s wedding.
She was the maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding, and as soon as it came time for the ceremony, everything started spiraling out of control.
“The entire time of the ceremony I was sobbing,” she explained. “Not because I felt touched. But because I mourned our friendship.”
“That day was the day that my hopes of things returning back to what they used to be were gone. Everyone thought it was cute and how touched and happy I was but I was not. But I couldn’t say it out loud.”

Except…she did decide to say it out loud. She did decide to voice her displeasure to her best friend in front of all of the guests gathered around at the wedding.
When it came time for her to get up there in front of everyone and give her maid of honor speech, she completely went off-script.
She did prepare a lovely speech to read aloud to her best friend and everyone gathered there on that day, but she threw it out the window as soon as she took hold of the microphone.
Feeling that the words on the page were nothing but dishonest, she spoke from her heart.
“I said that I don’t want to lie, I want to be honest but I’m not happy,” she said. “I’m not happy that this person she married is the reason our friendship changed.”
“I’m not happy on this day. I just pretended the whole day for her sake but it would be a shame for me to get up there and lie about how happy and excited I am.”
“I said I’m not happy but regardless I have to suck it up and congratulate the happy couple. There was an awkward silence for 2-3 minutes after my speech.”
Her best friend broke the silence by leaning over to whisper to her husband, and for the remainder of the evening, her best friend paid her no attention.
She tried to talk to her best friend after the speech that she gave, but her best friend was visibly angry with her and brushed her off, saying it was “not the right time” to talk.
As she tried to enjoy the rest of her best friend’s wedding, she got nasty looks from pretty much every person in the room. Surprisingly, nobody said anything to her though.
Two days after her best friend’s wedding, she was shocked that her best friend didn’t try to reach out to her.
She also attempted to call and text her best friend multiple times, but her efforts went ignored. Her best friend would not reply to her.
As she waited to hear from her best friend, a ton of the friends that they both have in common wasted no time in putting her in her place.
Her mutual friends told her that her speech was nothing but self-centered and awful. Finally, she did end up hearing from her best friend, but it wasn’t what she wanted to hear.
Her best friend asked her point-blank if her goal was to ruin her whole wedding, and she claimed it actually wasn’t her intention at all.
“The purpose was to be honest,” she continued. “She said I’m trying to play the victim and how she can’t believe I haven’t even shown a bit of remorse about what I said.”
“I said I can’t apologize for being honest.”
Her best friend then revealed to her that tons of people think she’s terrible for being so brutally honest in her speech, and her best friend is one of them.
Her best friend’s husband also no longer feels comfortable being around her, and so, she’s left wondering if she was wrong to get up there and give the speech that she did.
Do you think her best friend’s wedding was the time and place for her to dish out that dose of honesty, or should she have saved it for another day?
