A Groom Had To Scramble To Reorder His Fiancée’s Wedding Dress After Her Grandmother Was Accidentally Buried In It

Wedding dress mishaps are a dime a dozen. But this chaotic gown mix-up is surely unlike any other.
Kasia, the owner of Kasia’s Bridal & Special Occasion Boutique in Chicago, Illinois, recently shared the bizarre story of a groom and his soon-to-be brother-in-law. They accidentally buried the bride’s grandmother in her brand new wedding dress. Yikes.
How did this happen? Well, Kasia explained how the bride-to-be visited her boutique and ordered a gorgeous custom gown. Afterward, she asked her mother to store it in her closet for safekeeping.
Normally, no one would ever go into the closet besides her mother. Unfortunately, though, there was a death in the family.
The bride’s grandmother passed away, and, amidst the tragedy, the mother of the bride asked her son to get his grandma’s wedding dress from her closet. Apparently, the bride’s grandfather had been married in his wedding day tuxedo, so her grandma wanted to be buried in her wedding dress.
In turn, the groom and his soon-to-be brother-in-law entered the closet and saw a wedding dress hanging inside a bag.
They quickly grabbed it and delivered it to the funeral home. Little did they know that grandma’s wedding dress was stored in a box, and they had just dropped off the bride’s brand-new gown.
And you might be wondering how the bride did not notice during the funeral. Well, grandma’s funeral was a closed casket ceremony due to her cause of death– so nobody ever saw her in the bride’s gown.

About two weeks later, the groom, the bride’s brother, and her mother all realized what had happened. That was when the groom desperately called Kasia for help.
“This groom called me today, frantic as hell, practically crying. ‘Can you help me? My bride bought her dress with you last year. I understand that she picked it up, but I need to reorder it,'” she said in a now-viral TikTok.
Kasia explained how she could, of course, reorder it but was totally confused. Why was the groom calling? Was he digging for information?
While trying to be helpful, the boutique owner explained that new alterations might not be a possibility due to time constraints. Their wedding was only five months away. Instead, the groom cut Kasia off.
“Alterations are not an option. There is nothing to alter. I need to know if you can reorder this dress,” the groom said.
Kasia did her best and reached out to the manufacturer of the gown. But, she ultimately had to tell the groom that the same dress was not an option anymore. Then, he broke down, and the bride’s brother explained the entire situation.
“Being guys, they did not know better. They didn’t know there were multiple wedding dresses in the closet. So the guys took her dress and dropped it off at the funeral home,” Kasia explained to her followers.
She tried to come up with other options for the family, who did not want to tell the bride what happened. A few days later, Kasia actually set up a conference call with them to lay out their choices.
“I called the groom, the bride’s mother, and the bride’s brother. Everyone was on pins and needles, freaking out. They all actually avoided the bride for two days until they heard from me,” Kasia explained.
“So I gave them all of these ideas of things that we could do, but I told them that in the end, she may still possibly find out. So they made the executive decision to come clean, and I am actually really glad they decided to do that,” she continued.
Apparently, the three made a plan with the bride to go shopping the following weekend. And if the bride “did not kill them,” as Kasia put it, they planned to break the wedding dress news then.
But, before they could tell the truth, Kasia received the most coincidental call ever.
“It was like clockwork. Twenty-four hours before that, the bride called me and asked how hard it would be to enlarge the dress. She had ordered a size eight and thought she was going to be about a fourteen or sixteen by the time of the wedding,” she said.
If you could not have guessed, the bride found out she was pregnant– and needed a new dress anyway.
“I told her it was a mermaid dress and that we could not enlarge it that much. I asked what was going on, and she was pregnant,” Kasia explains.
Even more fortunately, the bride was “thrilled” about needing a new dress, and her family came clean after all. Somehow, this insanely wild situation worked itself out perfectly by the end. Perhaps it was all meant to be.
