“What ended up happening most of the time was that we would just go through the store, take a garment that was not sold yet, take off the tag, put it on, and then work our shift,” Dana said.
“You work all day; you’re sweating. And then, at the end of your shift, you take off your clothes, put the tag back on, and put it back into the store,” she continued.
And if you are thinking, “how gross,” Dana did, too. She only posted the TikTok to spread awareness that washing clothes after buying is imperative.
“This is my PSA to please wash your clothes after buying them,” Dana finished.
Her TikTok also prompted a slew of other retail workers to share their own experiences while working retail– and they are just as concerning.
“When I worked in a clothing store, I worked in the back and did not have a table. So, I had to sort through the clothing on the floor, and everything got so dirty,” one user commented.
“Once, a customer asked for the size I was wearing. I ‘checked’ in the back just to change into a bigger size so that way she could try mine on without knowing,” another user revealed.
So, the next time you go shopping, make sure you wash everything as soon as you get home. You never know how much bacteria a garment from a brick-and-mortar store could be harboring.
