He Told His New Wife That His Stepdaughter Can’t Have The Money His Ex-Wife Left For His Own Daughter And It’s Causing Major Problems
A man is currently married to his second wife, a woman named Ashley.
He and Ashley both entered into their relationship with a daughter from their previous relationships, and their daughters are 17-years-old.
Prior to marrying Ashley, he was married to another woman named Sam.
He admits that he and Sam were pretty terrible together, though they were excellent as friends and as parents to their daughter.
They did end up divorcing, and after that, he and Sam still were an important part of one another’s lives.
Throughout his time with Sam, he knew that she was putting money aside for their daughter’s college education.
He and Sam had decided that he would be the one to spend money on their daughter’s different activities as she grew up, and Sam would be the one to put money away for college.
“I never knew how much was in the account until 2 years ago when my ex died,” he explained.
“It was then I learned she had saved a hefty amount and that aside from allowing for her funeral expenses, she had left money for our daughter to use as she saw fit outside of the college money.”

“Ashley and I married 7 years ago, and at the time, we had discussed money for the girls, etc. I explained I was not saving, but my ex-wife was.”
Back when he did marry Ashley, she revealed to him that she had no money saved for her daughter and that her ex was also not doing that.
He and Ashley began saving some money for Ashley’s daughter to go to college, although it wasn’t possible for them to stock away a lot of money over the years as they just did not have it.
When Sam passed away, Ashley found out that Sam had left his daughter a ton of money, and this amount was far more than what they had managed to put aside for Ashley’s daughter.
In May, his own daughter announced that she would be attending community college in the town Sam was from, as she wanted to be able to see her grandparents while pursuing her college dreams.
“Ashley then brought up how some of that money could go to my stepdaughter,” he said. “I told her no.”
“That it was not OUR money, and even if she tried to suggest that it would be mine seeing as my daughter is a minor, I pointed out that it would be stealing to just take from her AND I had never contributed to that fund directly, and it would be taking my ex-wife’s money.”
Well, Ashley pretty much freaked out regarding the amount of money Sam had saved.
She pointed out that Sam knew that he had a stepdaughter, and it was completely “selfish” of him to want to have Sam’s money only go to his own daughter when he could agree to let it go to both girls.
“I told her she needed to get over that because Sam only had one child to think about, and it wasn’t her job to think about my stepdaughter or even any bio kids I could have had after our divorce,” he continued.
“Ashley told me to think about my stepdaughter. I told her my stepdaughter is not entitled to my daughter’s money or my ex-wife’s money (whichever way she wanted to look at it). She asked how I could be so callous about her daughter’s disadvantage.”
He’s left wondering if he’s right to tell Ashley that his stepdaughter cannot have the money that Sam intentionally left for his daughter.
