She Finally Stood Up To Her Brother-In-Law For Always Degrading Her Husband’s Accomplishments And Income
This thirty-five-year-old woman met her husband about twelve years ago when he was still a junior engineer. And she immediately knew that he was her ideal romantic partner.
After all, he was super perceptive, funny, and considerate. But, he came with one issue– his older brother.
“The only thing I didn’t like was the way he and his brother interacted. His brother loves to talk about how successful he is but undermines my husband’s accomplishments,” she explained.
In fact, her now-brother-in-law would always demean her husband’s achievements by saying they were “good for his age.”
So, she has wanted to say something about her brother-in-law’s arrogance for many years.
“Not only was I not impressed by his income, but it’s not a secret that he is noticeably uglier– inside and out,” she revealed.
Nonetheless, her husband preferred that she just drop it, and she respected his wishes. Still, she has had to live with the constant degradation for twelve years now.
Well, until about two weeks ago, when she finally told off her brother-in-law.
It all began when her brother-in-law, his wife, and their son all went to her house for a visit. Everything was going well at first, but if you could not have guessed it, her brother-in-law started making his patronizing comments again.

First, he started bragging about his recent raise and how he finally broke a certain salary threshold. Next, he brought up his wife’s promotion– which will land them even more money per year.
All the while, her husband was super supportive and congratulated his brother. But, she was just waiting for her brother-in-law’s competitive nature to rear its ugly head.
Then it did. More specifically, her brother-in-law looked at her husband and made a snide remark about how “he will get there.”
At that point, her son– who had been playing nearby– must have overheard their conversation because they asked a question. In fact, her son asked if his uncle’s salary was a lot.
Of course, her brother-in-law’s son said, “Yeah, duh,” but she decided to chime in with a “No.”
That prompted her brother-in-law to laugh and claim that she was setting too high of an expectation for her children. And this, coupled with the past twelve years, really set her off.
So, she finally decided to speak up and actually told her brother-in-law that his salary was what she and her husband paid in taxes last year.
Her brother-in-law and his wife immediately went silent, and then her husband tried to just change the topic. But, her brother-in-law would not quit it. Instead, he made a joke about how she needed to get a new accountant.
So finally, she straight up asked her brother-in-law how much he thinks their job titles should pay in taxes and told him that her husband is no longer an entry-level engineer.
“Admittedly, it was not my best moment. But I really disliked him for trying to put down my husband in front of our son,” she recalled.
Anyway, they eventually left her house after that. But then, she received a really angry text from her brother-in-law.
Apparently, he believes that she owes him an apology for embarrassing him in front of his son. However, she told him she would do nothing of the sort. Instead, she reiterated that she is glad to never discuss their incomes again in front of their children.
And even though her husband agreed with her, he still asked that she allow her brother-in-law to discuss his job with them in private. Her husband believes that her brother-in-law has some self-esteem issues and that it helps him to feel more successful.
Still, though, she wants nothing to do with that.
“I really don’t see the need to keep babysitting an almost forty-year-old man’s ego. And, frankly, I don’t want him anywhere near my son,” she vented.
Nonetheless, she realizes that she’s never had to deal with a sibling who has self-esteem issues. So, she is not sure if she is overreacting and being a jerk to her brother-in-law.
If you had to deal with a brother-in-law like that for over a decade, would you have snapped too? Do you think her husband needs to stand up for himself also? What would you do in this situation?
