She Was Guilted Into Baking A Cake For Her Cousin With The Promise Of Pay, But Then Her Cousin Ghosted Her, Never Paid And Actually Reached Out Four Months Later Asking For Another Cake
This twenty-two-year-old woman has a cousin named Janice– whose son turned two-years-old earlier this year. So, while Janice was planning the party, she was asked to bake Janice’s son a three-tiered Cocomelon-themed cake as a gift.
And honestly, she said no right off the bat. She told Janice that she was going to be busy the entire week leading up to the birthday party– because, apparently, she was in graduate school at the time and had to work on both her thesis and study for finals simultaneously.
While this is completely understandable, though, Janice just did not get it. So, Janice kept insisting and insisting, and she was forced to look like the bad guy by refusing to bake the cake.
But, that initial conversation was far from the end of the drama– because afterward, Janice actually told her entire family about it in a group chat.
First, Janice texted about how stressed she was about making her son’s birthday special. Then, Janice explicitly called her out for refusing to bake a cake even though she was supposedly going to get paid.
She was one, totally shocked that Janice would even bring up her refusal to her family. And second, confused because Janice never mentioned anything about her getting paid. In fact, she was told the cake would be her birthday gift.
Regardless, though, she still did not care and just ignored the chat– because, like she told Janice, she was just simply too busy.
Well, Janice did not take the hint, and a few hours later, she received texts from another group chat. This time, though, Janice had just put her and Janice’s mother in it. Then, Janice continued insisting she reconsiders her decision.
“They told me that they would pay for everything. The cost of materials, labor, and even the gas for when I drove to the store to buy everything I needed,” she recalled.

So, at that point, she was just sick of being harassed and decided to bake the cake for Janice’s son.
It ended up taking her three days to finish the dessert– all while she was totally sleep-deprived from trying to juggle all of her schoolwork and baking.
But, come Janice’s son’s birthday party, the cake looked fantastic, and everyone loved it. The weird thing, though, is that Janice never ended up paying her that day.
She figured Janice might have just been caught up with all of the festivities and decided she would wait a few days for Janice to reach out. However, Janice never did.
“I tried to call them, no answer. I tried messaging them via our family group chat, no response. And after a week, I messaged Janice and her mother to send them an invoice for everything they needed to pay. Again, no response,” she explained.
At that point, she was pretty irritated. Still, though, she is not the kind of person to get all confrontational. So, she just decided to let it go but concluded that that would be the last time she ever baked something for Janice.
Unfortunately, though, she only got to live Janice-free for a couple of months– because four months after the birthday party, Janice actually had the nerve to message her and ask if she could bake a cake for Janice’s birthday.
Obviously, she refused and reiterated how Janice and Janice’s mother had failed to pay for the three-tiered Cocomelon cake. Shockingly, though, Janice got really defensive.
Janice claimed that she and her mother would pay for both the son’s birthday cake and Janice’s birthday cake now.
But she was not going to fall for that again and told Janice that she would definitely not be baking her birthday cake.
Well, Janice totally lost it after that. In fact, Janice called her a jerk and then had the nerve to claim that the Cocomelon cake should have been free anyway since it was not pretty and did not taste good.
Then, she decided to call Janice out for the inconsistencies and told her it was really funny how she was asking for another birthday cake after claiming that the last one was so terrible.
Still, though, Janice would not knock it off. Instead, she received an extremely long nasty message in which Janice called her every name in the book. Plus, Janice’s mother even texted her and accused her of being rude and greedy.
“So, I told Janice’s mother to shut up and pay me before I call the police on them,” she revealed. Yikes!
And after that, all of her family members from that side of the family started blowing up her phone and calling her a jerk for refusing to make the cake and disrespecting an elder.
This forced her to just block all of them and leave her family group chat. And she gained the support of her own mother on that decision– who claims that her refusal was justifiable. Her grandma and brother also agreed.
However, her mom does believe that telling Janice and Janice’s mother to shut up, along with calling them other choice words, was the wrong thing to do.
Anyway, now, she has been left wondering if she was somehow the jerk in this entire situation after baking a cake she never wanted to make for free.
Can you believe Janice had the nerve to reach out again after not paying the first time? What about Janice’s claims that they hated the first cake? If you were in her shoes, would you have handled this situation any differently? If so, how?
