So, she was forced to explain how she had actually just canceled the gift due to the breakup, and her sister-in-law was pretty upset about it.
On top of that, her sister-in-law apparently spoke to her mother-in-law about it. And now her mother-in-law has since reached out and claimed that canceling the gift was an unkind thing to do.
Her mother-in-law also believes that since her sister-in-law is clearly going through a really challenging time right now, it would have been a good idea to send the gift away– especially since the holidays are quickly approaching.
And honestly, she recognizes that the entire situation is really unfortunate. But, the gift was a whopping seven hundred dollars.
“Pretty well above the threshold of what I would normally spend for a typical holiday gift,” she noted.
So now, she has been left wondering whether she had a right to cancel the gift. Or if it was a bad faux pas that makes her a total jerk to her sister-in-law.
If someone cancels their wedding, is it acceptable to cancel any wedding gifts? Does it matter if the person who was supposed to get married is a close family member or not? What would you have done had you been in her shoes?
