Her Older Sister Stole And Crashed Her Car, But Her Parents Didn’t Want Her To Press Charges In Order To Fix The Car Via Insurance, So They Are Now Using Money From A Vacation Fund And Have Blamed Her For Missing The Vacation
This girl is just seventeen-years-old and currently still lives with her parents. But, she has an older sister– who is twenty-nine– that her parents had when they were both pretty young. According to her, her parents were about eighteen or nineteen years old at the time.
And honestly, perhaps because of her parent’s young age, she claims that they did not do a good job raising her sister.
“[My sister] has a lot of problems. She is chronically unemployed, and she is a thief,” she revealed.
Her sister also has two children, who she claims are “okay.” But the kids reportedly live with her and her parents because her sister’s boyfriend just didn’t want them around.
Now, she does like her sister’s kids, but she admits that they are “spoiled brats.” In fact, she believes her parents just dote on them in order to make up for being bad parents to their mother– her sister. Yikes.
Anyway, now that she is obviously a teen, she wants to have some privacy in her bedroom. That’s a pretty normal coming-of-age wish, right?
Well, even after she begged her parents to put a lock on her door, they apparently still refused. So, she decided to talk with her sister’s children– who would seemingly invade her privacy– and told them what would happen if they went into her room without permission.
She claims that she and the kids came to an understanding about that, and everything was fine for a while. But that was until recently when her sister broke up with her boyfriend.
So, if you could not have guessed it, her sister ultimately needed somewhere to stay following the relationship’s end. And she already knew where that train was heading.
In turn, she claims to have literally begged her parents not to let her sister stay with them. Her parents wanted to help out their eldest daughter, though and didn’t want to just leave her out on the street.
And at that point, she figured it would probably be a good time to ask for a lock on her door again. To her dismay, though, her parents declined her request a second time.
So, since she is still in high school, she obviously cannot stand guard over her belongings at all times. And this reality ended up having some serious consequences.
Apparently, when she got home from school this past Friday, she found that her car had been “absolutely trashed”– with the side of it totally destroyed.
It later came to light that her sister had gone snooping in her room, found the spare key to her car, and stolen the vehicle. Then, while out, her sister apparently ate “crap” and tossed fast food wrappers all over the interior.
And finally, by the end of the trip, her sister reportedly lost control of the car while driving over a sheet of ice and ended up side-swiping a tree.
“When I saw my car, I was livid,” she recalled. Who wouldn’t be?
She also told her parents that she expected her sister to pay for all of the damages. Surprise, surprise, though, her parents informed her that her sister had no money to cover the cost of repair.
So, she claimed that she would call her grandparents. After all, they had helped her get the car in the first place, as well as get it insured.
Anyway, she did end up speaking with her grandfather, and the call went very well. She ended up learning that her insurance would either cover the cost of the damages or replace her car, depending on the extent of the damage.
But her grandfather also told her that she would have to file a police report in order to get everything covered. In turn, her sister would probably be charged with the theft of her car.
And after telling her parents all of this, they ended up begging her to tell the insurance company that she had given her sister permission to drive the car. To be honest, though, she straight-up told her parents no. So, her parents kind of felt backed into a corner, and they ultimately decided to replace her car rather than go through insurance. That way, her sister would not have to face any legal repercussions.
The money for another car does not just grow on a tree following a crash, though. In turn, her parents were forced to take the cash out of a vacation fund– which was meant to take her and her nieces on a trip to Orlando next summer for her graduation.
Frankly, though, she has been very mature about this situation. In fact, she said that it was fine and claimed that she could do without seeing Disney World all over again. It’s her family, on the other hand, who is totally pissed.
“My parents, sister, and nieces are upset with me and saying that I’m a [jerk] for denying my nieces the opportunity to go on a vacation that they have never had,” she explained.
But to be honest, she thinks none of that is her fault. So, she ended up just asking her parents if putting a lock on her door in the first place would have been cheaper, and that got them to quiet down a bit.
Her mom also has since put a deadbolt on her bedroom door, and her parents only have a spare key for emergencies– which she is thankful about. Since reflecting on all of this drama, though, she started to feel a bit guilty about the situation. So now, she is questioning whether making her parents choose between letting her sister go to jail or replacing her car with vacation money makes her a jerk or not.
Why do you think her parents continue to enable her sister’s reckless behavior? Can you believe that her parents and sister are mad at her about the vacation now, even though the damage was her sister’s fault? Do you believe her parents should have let charges get pressed to teach her sister a lesson or not? Is she the jerk for wanting her car replaced?
