This lip look is similar to the frosted lips trend, but they are much bolder and editorial-looking. Think if Vogue had an alien-themed cover shoot with metallic blue, purple, silver, and gold lip hues.
Many cosmetic brands have begun experimenting with chrome lipstick and lipgloss formulas, and trend enthusiasts have flocked to buy up these bottles. Other fashion lovers have tried out the trend using cheaper, DIY methods at home.
For instance, you can actually use a metallic finish eyeliner as a lip liner. Then, add some shimmery or straight-up chrome eyeshadow on top of neutral-toned lipstick to get a similar finish.
Perhaps the most exciting part about this trend, though, is how different it is from mainstream makeup looks right now. We have seen the “clean girl” era come and go– with people sporting very minimalistic makeup in an effort to appear as though they are wearing none at all.
Recently, the “cold girl” makeup trend has also taken off– with women around the globe wearing matte foundations and blushy cheeks to give a subtle, wintery vibe.
But this chrome lip trend is unlike these fads and many others. Rather than trying to look minimal or subtle, these metallic lips actually encourage us to be bold, bright, and even otherworldly. And isn’t it so much more fun to use our fashion and makeup to make a statement sometimes?
