In 1994, This 6-Year-Old From California Vanished While Playing Outside With Her Three Older Brothers One Summer Afternoon, And Her Case Has Remained Unsolved Ever Since

In 1994, Crystal Ann Tymich was just six-years-old. She was born and raised in California, spending equal time at her mother’s house in Santa Monica and her father’s home in Los Angeles, and had three brothers– who were twelve, ten, and eight at the time.
Crystal was known by her mom as an energetic and fun-loving young girl who absolutely loved video games– often frequenting local arcades.
The six-year-old also enjoyed spending time playing with her siblings and taking part in typical childhood shenanigans.
So, June 30, 1994, started off no different. That warm summer day, Crystal and her three older brothers were staying at their father’s house, and they went to play outside.
The four kids eventually ended up near a neighbor’s home when they decided to compete in a sort-of competition.
More specifically, Crystal and her brothers took turns seeing who could throw a peach the furthest over a neighbor’s house.
After a while, though, Crystal’s older brother, Jeffrey, claims that one of their parents or grandparents called for the children to go back inside.
Then, after he and his other two brothers began running home, Jeffrey reportedly looked back and realized Crystal was not behind them. The last known sighting of the six-year-old was between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. that day.
Immediately after Crystal disappeared, the Tymich family began frantically searching throughout the neighborhood.

Once about an hour had passed, they were forced to contact the authorities and report her missing.
From the start, investigators labeled Crystal’s case as an abduction. She was also considered an endangered missing child.
Strangely, though, during interviews with police, neighbors of the Tymich family claimed not to have noticed anything suspicious or unusual occurring in the area that afternoon.
So, a massive search was ultimately launched– aided by nearly one hundred police officers along with community members and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
In fact, a localized tactical alert was even initiated that afternoon, which instructed all on-shift law enforcement officials to remain working until the search was over and the alert was canceled.
Simultaneously, a ten thousand dollar reward was announced by the City Council to anyone who helped Crystal’s safe return.
Unfortunately, though, the widespread search effort– which lasted until about 4:30 a.m. on July 1– turned up no evidence of Crystal. The localized tactical alert was canceled, and the six-year-old has still remained missing ever since.
There is a lack of information regarding subsequent search efforts that unfolded throughout the remainder of 1994 and 1995.
By March of 1996, however, a new twenty-five thousand dollar was offered– urging anyone with information to come forward.
No community members had any insight into Crystal’s case, though. So, on May 5, 1996, the reward offer was ultimately terminated on account of no collections.
In August 2005, however, the missing six-year-old re-entered national media coverage after countless law enforcement officials searched a neighbor’s home. The property had been located right across the street from where the Tymich family lived, and a witness submitted a tip about a “suspicious burial of an animal” shortly after Crystal went missing.
Despite community members having hope that the search would lead to closure, though, no progress was made yet again. Instead, the effort uncovered nothing but animal bones on the neighbor’s property, and Crystal’s case has remained cold.
Today, the Tymich family has continued searching for Crystal and spreading awareness of her case online– primarily through a Facebook page entitled Missing: Crystal Ann Tymich.
Crystal’s older brother, Michael, had spearheaded this social media effort– searching high and low for his little sister. But, on August 23 of this year, followers of the page were sadly informed that he had passed away.
“Mike dedicated his life to finding his little sister, and not a day went by that he didn’t think about her and hope for her safe return,” one post on the Facebook page read.
“Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, and continue the search for Crystal in his honor.”
Law enforcement officials have not given up on closing her case, either. There is now a ten thousand dollar reward being offered to anyone with information that leads to Crystal’s safe return or the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her disappearance.

At the time Crystal vanished, she was four feet tall, weighed sixty pounds, and had dark blonde hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing floral print shorts, a pink t-shirt, and tennis shoes that had a mermaid on them. Today, Crystal would be thirty-five years old. If you have any information regarding her disappearance or whereabouts, you are urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department Missing Persons Unit at (213) 485-4175.
