As it turns out, the site of the hotel was formerly a cancer hospital in the 1930s. The hotel was in possession of a promotional poster for the hospital created by its operator, Norman Baker. The poster contained images of jars and reads, “We Have Proofs of Our Success.”
After comparing the jars they found in the dirt to the ones on the cancer hospital poster, the hotel staff realized that those jars contained the cancerous tumors of the hospital’s former patients.
Archeologists from the University of Arkansas were called in to assist in digging up the jars and study what was inside them.
They found that at the Cancer Curable Baker Hospital, Norman Baker would offer to treat people of their cancer without a real cure.
He took tons of money from sick families, but instead of healing, many people died under his care. The land that the hotel now sits on was essentially Norman’s medical dumping ground.
Professionals have taken good care of these jars, which are now on display at the Crescent Hotel & Spa for the public to see on some of their iconic ghost tours.
Now knowing about its history, would you stay at this hotel?
