It took them moments of staring at the man in pure shock before Tim had the courage to ask him if he needed help with anything.
“Is this room 1709?” the man asked.
Tim told him no, and the man just shook his head before walking out the door.
“We then erupted into a million curse words and paced around the room,” he explained. “I called the front desk. They told me that he was drunk, and they found him in the stairwell.”
As the hotel employees gathered details on this man and what he was doing at the hotel, it all became super creepy.
Eventually, they discovered he was not a guest at the hotel, so they had to call the police. But he escaped police custody and must have been stumbling around the hotel hallways until he entered their room. The room he spoke of, 1709, didn’t exist.
“We still have no idea what that was all about or how he managed to get a keycard to our room,” he said. “We were sure the door was closed. It was easily the most terrifying moment of my life.”
His story is a good reminder to always use every lock available in a hotel – including the latch! Even better, purchase a portable door lock to travel with you and stay extra safe.
