Unfortunately, she may have let them know sooner than she had hoped. The other day, during a video call meeting with her team and the company’s CEO, she shared her screen while they were brainstorming design solutions.
Her co-worker was telling her about a feature in Gmail that may be helpful to them, so without hesitation, she logged into her personal Gmail account.
When her inbox loaded, she didn’t realize that the email about her new job offer and acceptance would be right at the top of the screen.
One of the lines of the email mentioned accepting the new company’s job offer and was visible to everyone. It took her about ten seconds to realize what was going on.
“I immediately opened a new tab and tried to play it off,” she recalled. “I am absolutely mortified. No one let on that they saw it, but if they did, the email preview left absolutely zero doubt about what was going on.”
Now, she’s going to make sure that she signs a contract for her new job as soon as possible so that she can give notice to her current boss quickly. She plans on apologizing profusely, as this is the last way she wanted to tell her co-workers about her new job.
Have you ever accidentally screen-shared something personal during an online meeting?
