Since then, his son and a bunch of other extended family members have also taken his daughter’s side– claiming that they did not understand how he didn’t realize just how hurt Kay was at her graduation.
On the other hand, his wife, Doreen, is mad at him, too, but for a different reason. Apparently, Doreen thinks he was a jerk for even making his daughter the promise in the first place since it was obviously going to upset either Kay or Amy.
Finally, his stepdaughter is also feeling upset and confused about why Kay hates her so much.
Anyway, he realizes that the only way to salvage his relationship with Kay would be to keep his promise and not go to Amy’s graduation.
“But no matter how I look at it, I would feel like I’m punishing Amy for having a medical issue,” he vented.
So now, he’s been left wondering whether breaking his promise to his daughter and attending his stepdaughter’s graduation would make him a real jerk or not.
Can you understand why Kay was devastated when he missed her graduation? Was it smart for him to make that promise years ago? How can he reconcile the situation? Is it inevitable that either his daughter or stepdaughter will walk away hurt?
