She Called Out Her Stepdad For Thinking He Could Provide Money For Her Wedding As A Way To Pay For The Opportunity To Walk Her Down The Aisle

When this young woman was just a baby, her father sadly passed away. So, her paternal grandparents took over as her primary caregivers whenever her mother had to work.
But, once she reached the age of 4, her mom met a new man named Jason. Now, she claimed there had been some “weirdness” between her mom and Jason. Regardless, the pair wound up getting engaged pretty quickly.
About six months after they met, however, her mom got into an accident and was in the hospital. That pushed her grandparents to step in and take care of her, even though this arrangement upset both her mom and Jason.
“They felt like my grandparents should have left me with Jason and given me a chance to bond with him,” she explained.
“Because to hear my mom tell it, all I wanted was my grandparents when I was little, and when the accident first happened, I cried for them when I realized I couldn’t see her.”
Despite her mom and Jason’s wishes, she still went to stay with her grandparents. Then, once her mom and stepdad tied the knot, Jason adopted her when she was 5-years-old.
But this was not exactly what she wanted. In fact, her mom and Jason had told her ahead of time that she would be getting adopted, and she actually asked them not to go through with it.
Still, she was told that Jason was going to be her dad– even though she never called him by that official title.
Instead, she always called Jason either by his first name or the title “stepdad,” which reportedly bothered both her mom and Jason. They even tried to blame her grandparents for her perspective on the situation since her grandparents shared a lot of information about her dad.

That’s why, eventually, her mom even tried to cut her grandparents off from seeing her. But thankfully, since she had such a strong bond with her grandparents– and the fact that they were her only connection to her biological father– the court decided it was only right for her to keep that relationship.
“I ended up getting to see them every other weekend, and I got one overnight a month with them. I loved it,” she recalled.
With Jason, on the other hand, she never felt genuinely comfortable. Sure, he tried very hard to be her father by spending time with her and spoiling her. However, he was also apparently quite jealous of her longing for her biological father.
For instance, Jason got upset when he realized she had kept a picture of her dad by her bedside. He was also jealous after he walked in on her speaking to the picture when she was just a little girl or whenever she would make notes to leave at her dad’s grave for Father’s Day.
Apparently, as a kid, she used to really believe that people existed after death and could hear what was said to them. So that’s why she sometimes wrote special notes for her late dad.
Nowadays, she recognizes why Jason was upset because she was writing and speaking to a father she never really knew; meanwhile, she only ever addressed Jason by his first name.
“But it doesn’t change how I felt or how I feel today. His hatred for my grandparents didn’t win me over, either,” she admitted.
“I do think I love Jason. But I would never say he was my dad.”
Anyway, she is now in her twenties and recently got engaged to her fiancé– who she thinks is a wonderful person.
And on her big day, she planned to have her grandma walk her down the aisle. Prior to actually asking her grandma, though, she decided to break the news to her mom and Jason. That way, there were no surprises.
But during that conversation, Jason wound up asking her about money for the wedding– which she had never discussed or even asked him for.
So, she revealed how she and her fiancé intended to foot the bill by themselves. Although Jason apparently had other plans.
More specifically, her stepdad offered to pay for her nuptials so that he would have the opportunity to “give her away.”
And honestly, that idea just made her really angry. She reiterated to Jason how she never asked for that and also admitted to thinking it was insulting that Jason figured he could just pay to walk her down the aisle.
But both Jason and her mom seriously disagreed. They both believed that she was very insensitive toward Jason’s feelings– especially because he considered her his own daughter.
“And I have never accepted him as my dad,” she vented.
So now, she’s been left wondering whether calling her stepdad out for trying to “buy his way” into walking her down the aisle was the wrong thing to do or not.
Can you understand why she longed for her late father, even if she didn’t know him? Was it fair for her mom and Jason to push the idea of replacing her father on her? Does it make sense that she would want her grandma to walk her down the aisle, given her strong connection to her grandparents? Should she feel guilty about that?
