This 33-year-old woman’s husband sadly passed away recently.

Before her husband was ill, he purchased an old home that he’d planned to renovate.

Supposedly, the house had previously been a hunting lodge that belonged to a family with generational wealth, according to the realtor. Over time, the house fell apart.

Her husband’s plan was never to allow someone within the family to live at this house.

The reason her husband had decided to buy the home in the first place was because he had grown up in poverty; once he began earning an impressive salary, he spent many years not treating himself or his family.

“He did not wear expensive clothes or drive expensive cars. His money only ever went to safe investments or to new businesses he was able to make a success, so this was the one purchase that he wanted to make, just because he could,” she said.

When she and her husband purchased other houses over the years, they were immaculate and in perfect condition. However, the house her husband bought before he fell ill was a disaster.

She was married to her husband for six years before he passed away, and she had a fairly good relationship with one of her stepdaughters.

But she didn’t get along with her other stepdaughter.

“She disliked how tight-fisted her dad was towards her mom and family. She had a horrible boyfriend who already had five children with two other women by the time he was 32 but believed that after having her 4-year-old daughter, he would propose instead of leaving her as he did. After the boyfriend left her, my husband and I let her live in the house rent-free,” she explained.

During this time, she assumed that eventually, her stepdaughter was going to start paying them rent. But her husband suddenly fell ill, and he and his daughter hadn’t had good communication prior to that, so she never paid any rent.

While her stepdaughter continued to live in the house, its condition worsened even further.

“After my husband died, his assets were divided between me, his nephew, and the rest in a trust for our son, 4. I told his daughter that she had to start paying $900 per month in exchange for her living in two adjoining rooms upstairs and being able to use the kitchen. She said that was too hard and that she was a single mom. She also got mad when I said that her boyfriend is around spending money on dates but somehow cannot send support,” she shared.

One week after their back-and-forth communication, she consulted with her lawyers.

The lawyers then gave her stepdaughter notice to vacate the house and filed an official eviction.

In the state they live in, evictions are slow, and it’s been four months since her lawyers filed the eviction.

She’s assuming that her stepdaughter is going to fight against the eviction since she doesn’t seem to have anywhere else to move and doesn’t have good credit.

In the meantime, she’s hired someone to clean the common areas of the house since her stepdaughters said that she struggles to keep the house clean due to her depression.

Despite it being obvious that the house was in poor condition, she requested a home inspection.

After the inspection, her agents informed her that the house was in such horrible shape that she could have the property condemned rather than waiting for the eviction to go through.

Ultimately, she decided to go forward with having the house condemned. This meant that her stepdaughter and her child had to leave right away.

When this happened, her stepdaughter was angry, telling her that she could have been able to get by in that house regardless of the state it was in, shaming her for forcing her and her daughter into homelessness.

Despite what her stepdaughter said to her, she feels relieved that she is no longer in her husband’s house, which desperately needs to be renovated.

What would you have done if you were in her shoes?
