She Caught Her Mom Cheating On Her Dad, So She’s Refusing To Let Her Mom See Her Son Again

Over the Fourth of July weekend in 2022, this woman and her son got together with her parents.
They spent the day at the lake, and when they were driving back to their resort, her father was driving, and her mother sat in the passenger seat. Her son was sitting behind her father, and she sat behind her mother.
During the drive, she saw that her mother was texting someone and had the screen cover open in an attempt to hide the conversation from her father.
This looked pretty suspicious, but she didn’t think there was anything serious going on until she began to peek at the conversation her mother was having.
Her mother was texting steamy things to another man. Understandably, she was furious with her mother, but because her son was in the truck at the time, she didn’t want to cause a scene in front of him.
Instead, she waited to confront her mother at the end of the weekend to find out if she was interpreting the situation correctly.
In the meantime, whenever her mother was texting on her phone, she made sure to take the opportunity to peek, and she continued seeing even more concerning, flirtatious messages.
“So, I confront her over text with my dad in the room, to which she denies everything (I’m not shocked), so I tell her she needs to tell Dad. After that, I went to bed and stayed silent. When we left on Sunday to head home, she hadn’t told him,” she said.
Her father works the night shift, and at this point, she was allowing her mother to help her out with her son.

Unfortunately, the steel shop that she worked for didn’t let her bring her son to school each morning and work 10-hour shifts.
Due to the scheduling issue, she dropped her son off at her parents’ house, and her mother would bring her son to school.
Even though she was irate with her mother’s cheating behavior, she didn’t have anyone else who could bring her son to school, so she continued the arrangement with her mother because she wanted to prioritize her son.
She once again let her mother know that she needed to confess everything to her father and resolve the situation.
“What does she do? She kicks him out and lies to him. So, my dad feels blindsided by this and like he has nobody,” she explained.
Throughout her childhood, she and her father had their ups and downs, but after her mother kicked him out, she was his support system.
Her father experienced extreme loneliness, and he also suffered a heart attack, and her mother wasn’t there for him at all through this.
Instead, her mother instigated arguments with him over petty things. This past summer, her mother asked her if she could take her son over a weekend to an amusement park in the area and stay overnight at a nearby resort.
She agreed to the idea because she was still relying on her mother for help, and her son spent one weekend with her mother.
After her mother dropped her son off, she asked him how the weekend was.
“He tells me about Nan’s friend who was there with them. So, I pulled up a picture of him (yes, I stalked his Facebook and figured out everything I could) and asked my son if that was him, and he said yes. Well, my mom never bothered to tell me he was going to be there,” she shared.
Understandably, she was incredibly angry about this. Less than two weeks later, she returned the house key her mother had given her without a word, which nearly caused an argument.
Then, in August, she was given the chance to move to the engineering department at work, and her new position would be an office job. It was incredibly convenient that this happened right before the new school year started for her son.
Plus, her boss let her shift her hours around so that she could both drop off and pick up her son from school. She planned to finish work right before her son was done with school each day.
Since the incident over the summer, which was right around the time her son’s summer program ended, she hasn’t allowed her mother to see her son.
Her son’s birthday is in November, and before then, her mother reached out and asked if she could see him to celebrate his birthday.
She shut this idea down, explaining how upset she was that she hadn’t let her know ahead of time that the man she’d been having an affair with would be present over the weekend trip she took with her son.
Unfortunately, her mother never took accountability for this or said sorry. Instead, her mother told her that she was acting like a child, adding that her father wasn’t as hurt by the affair as she seemed to be.
She doesn’t believe this at all because she talks to her father on a regular basis and knows how much he’s struggling.
As the conversation continued, her mother tried to make her feel guilty by claiming that keeping her away from her son would only make him sad.
However, her son hasn’t mentioned his grandmother since summer school ended, right around the time that he went to the amusement park and resort.
During the period of time when she had to drop her son off at her mother’s every night, he didn’t want to sleep over at her mother’s, telling her he wanted to stay with her, asking if she could be the one to take him to school.
At the time, her work schedule conflicted with her son’s school schedule, but with her new position, that would no longer be an issue.
What advice would you give her?
