She Was Given Her Grandmother’s Wedding Dress, But Her Mom Ruined The Gown

In 2021, when this woman was 16-years-old, her parents kicked her out of the house. Before leaving, she packed a few bags and went to her best friend’s house, where she lived with him, 16, and his parents.

Before she was kicked out of her parents’ house, she had been given her grandmother’s wedding dress, and she planned to wear it on her own wedding day.

“Once I was kicked out, my mother and sister raided my room for what they wanted before I came back to collect the rest of my things. I did notice this at the time but didn’t have the mental energy to fight about it. The wedding dress was one of those items taken from me,” she said.

When she inquired about her grandmother’s wedding dress, her mother claimed that she didn’t want her to bring the dress to her best friend’s house because his family didn’t keep their front door locked, so she was concerned that the dress could be stolen or tampered with.

Her mother then told her that she would clean the dress and keep it safe in a box, adding that she shouldn’t be able to take the dress because it was a “‘family heirloom.'”

Yesterday, after arguing with her mother about it for two years straight, she finally was able to get the dress back in her possession.

“The threat of police and courts caused her to finally fold. She doesn’t want legal trouble, as it would make her perfect image crumble in front of her. I had to go to my grandmother to get a recording of her stating it was mine,” she explained.

Her grandmother is 92-years-old, and she doesn’t have the best memory anymore.

However, she still recalled that she wanted her to have her wedding dress two years ago, even being able to recall all of the small details of the day when she gave her the dress.

When she opened the box that contained the dress, she was horrified to discover that the dress was completely destroyed, and she estimated that it was “thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.”

“She handed me the box after going on a rant about how she spoke to Grandma, and anyone in the family who wants to use it should be allowed, as that’s what Grandma gave it to me for, and I was to be its keeper and lend it out when they wanted. FALSE,” she shared.

When she recorded a conversation between herself and her grandmother, she asked her grandmother what she wanted to happen with her wedding dress. In response, her grandmother asked what she meant, adding that she’d given the dress to her.

She told her grandmother that she would wear the dress for her own wedding, and her grandmother was happy with this, stating that she wanted to see the dress on her someday before she got married.

Since she is already in her 90s, she doesn’t know if she will be alive to see her wear the dress on her wedding day.

During this recorded conversation, her grandmother never told her that she wanted her to loan the dress to any family members who also wanted to wear it.

Instead, her grandmother confirmed that she was leaving the dress in her possession, and it was meant to be only her dress–no one else’s.

When she and her sister discussed the issue, she came up with a compromise and told her sister that after she had worn the dress for her wedding, she would consider loaning her the dress.

She pointed out that the only reason the fight over her grandmother’s dress started in the first place was because her mother was so worried that the dress would be stolen or ruined if she brought it with her to her best friend’s house when she was kicked out.

Instead of her mother keeping the dress safe, she completely destroyed it.

Unfortunately, not many people have taken her side throughout this ongoing situation. Her entire family, and even her partner, think she’s making too big of a deal out of the entire thing, brushing off her rage and feelings of betrayal.

In her view, she has the right to feel this way because her mother refused to give back her grandmother’s wedding dress for two years, claimed that the dress wasn’t even hers to begin with, and then damaged it.

When she called her mother to confront her about the ruined dress, her mother seemed to be trying to hold back laughter as she told her that that’s what happens when you get a very old wedding dress dry-cleaned.

Now, she wants her mother to pay to have the dress repaired.

What would you have done if you were in her shoes?
