Ever since the pandemic hit, this 29-year-old woman began growing out her hair, and it got as long as halfway down her back.

She has never dyed her hair before, and she only blow-dries or styles it on occasion, so it’s quite healthy.

“My natural color is a very uncommon red, I’ve been told my whole life that it’s almost impossible to recreate,” she explained.

“It’s not an uncommon thing for people to tell me they want my hair. 2 weeks ago, I finally decided I wanted to cut it short and donate it to Angel Hair For Kids, a company that makes wigs for children fighting cancer and other illnesses.”

“I told my dad I was doing this, and when I was doing it, and he thought it was a great idea. I ended up cutting off 16 inches and have honestly never felt more like myself with my new haircut. I feel like I finally recognize myself again and, for the first time in years, feel good about myself.”

While she was at the salon getting her hair cut, she sent her dad a few photos of the process. Then, when her hair was done, she sent her dad photos of her new look.

An hour after sending her dad the photos, her 71-year-old stepmom, Jane, texted her to see if she would give her the hair she had cut off.

Jane wanted to have her hair made into a wig. Now, she and Jane have had a tumultuous relationship.

Back when she was in high school, Jane caused such a major problem and never apologized, so she went two entire years without speaking to Jane or her dad.

Although she and Jane have been able to put the past behind them and have an improved relationship, they’re not close.

As long as she has known Jane, Jane has battled severe health issues, and within the last two years, Jane has lost close to all of her hair.

“She recently bought 2-3 wigs that look amazing on her,” she said. “Every time we discussed the wigs, she would joke that I should give her my hair since I had so much of it.”

“Well, it turns out that I misunderstood, and she wasn’t actually joking. When Jane asked me for my hair I had already sent it away for donation, which I told her. She didn’t say anything about it after that, she just asked me for more pictures of my haircut, which I sent.”

“In all honesty, the idea of giving her my hair feels quite weird to me. I imagine showing up to Christmas to see her wearing my hair, and it brings up weird emotions about my previous relationship with her when I was younger, and she was more controlling.”

She ended up seeing her dad several days after her haircut, and when she did, he instantly wanted to talk about her donating it to charity.

He couldn’t understand why she did this instead of giving her hair to Jane. He then informed her that he was disappointed in her for not thinking of Jane before donating her hair.

The whole thing caused a lot of discomfort between her and her dad. She was previously excited to have done a kind thing with her hair, and it made her feel great about herself, but this has caused her to no longer feel that way.

“I feel like I’ve done something wrong and selfish now,” she concluded.

Do you think she should have donated her hair to Jane instead of the charity for children?
