While in long-term relationships, it’s common for couples to change over time physically. But if you realize you’re no longer physically attracted to your partner anymore, what do you do?

Two years ago, this 28-year-old man met his girlfriend, 24, at the gym. He jogs daily, works out in the gym three times a week, and weighs 200 pounds at 6’5”.

“She’s smaller and was thin at the time. She was cute and funny, and we hit it off well,” he said.

A year ago, he and his girlfriend started living together, and he realized that she’d gained a small amount of weight, but it didn’t bother him.

Over the last several months, she’s continued gaining weight. He estimated she gained about 60 pounds or more in the last year. She hasn’t been exercising anymore, either.

“I find her eating habits and appearance gross now. The thin girl I was so attracted to has been replaced by an insatiable eater,” he explained.

His girlfriend often eats entire bags of candy and craves fast food for each meal. Their apartment lease ends in April, and she’s been bringing up the topic of marriage lately.

However, he’s now debating on breaking up with his girlfriend and moving into a new apartment by himself once their lease ends.

“Maybe she is depressed. It’s not fair of me to keep this all to myself and just drop a bomb when the lease is up,” he shared.

Before making a final decision, he will have a conversation with her about his recent thoughts. He knows that his girlfriend should understand where he’s coming from so she’s not shocked if he chooses to end the relationship without warning.

But he can’t help but not feel physically attracted to her now that she’s gained weight. He doesn’t find it attractive that she no longer works out or eats a balanced diet.

Do you think it would be wrong for him to break up with his girlfriend because she gained weight? What advice would you give him?
