Her Parents Threatened To Cut Her Off Financially If She Goes To College Out Of State Because They Want Her To Stay Close To Home And Care For Her Younger Siblings

Not long ago, this 18-year-old girl’s application was accepted to Baylor University in Texas. She was born in Georgia and has spent her entire life there.
She lives with her mother and stepfather and has three younger siblings who are 10, 5, and 2-years-old.
After her oldest sibling was born, she cared for her siblings because her parents worked so much that they couldn’t.
“I have always been the one to keep house. I clean, cook, do laundry, and get the kids ready for bed/school every day,” she said.
She’s on her high school’s all-star competitive cheerleading team, and since she was 14, she has paid for all cheerleading expenses without her parents’ help. Because of her standout cheerleading talent, she has received full-ride scholarship offers.
Since two of the colleges that offered her scholarships didn’t offer the major she hoped to pursue, she turned them down.
The other two colleges she had to choose between were Brenau, only 20 minutes away from her hometown, and Baylor.
“My parents demanded that I go to Brenau so I could still live at home and help with the kids because they can’t do it on their own,” she explained.
In response, she told them that she didn’t have an interest in attending Brenau and didn’t enjoy the school, but her parents didn’t accept her views and told her that she couldn’t attend Baylor because of how far away it was.

“I have decided and already confirmed with Baylor that I will be going there and competing with their team on a full-ride athletic scholarship,” she shared.
A couple of nights ago, she broke the news to her parents that she was planning to attend Baylor in the fall, and they were furious.
According to her parents, if she moved away for college, they would financially cut her off and not allow her to stay in contact with her siblings, whom she’s cared for all of these years. After the argument with her parents, she doesn’t know what to do.
What advice would you give her?
