His Wife’s Ex-Husband Passed Away And Left A Little Boy Behind, But He Wants To Take Him In

Before this 33-year-old man was married to his 34-year-old wife, Kara, she was married once before.
Kara and her ex-husband had a daughter named Charlotte together, who is now 9. Now, he has always dreamed of being a dad; however, he’s unable to have children of his own.
So, ever since he met Kara and Charlotte, he has been treating Charlotte like she’s his child and he has been “showering her with love.”
After Kara and her ex split up, Kara’s ex went on to have his 5-year-old son Levi with a different woman.
“Levi is not an affair baby; Kara’s ex didn’t even start seeing Levi’s mom until a year after he and Kara got divorced,” he explained.
Well, a week ago, Kara’s ex passed away in a car accident. He has since found out that Levi’s mom has refused to take him, and Kara’s ex doesn’t have any family members who want the little boy either.
As for why Levi’s mom isn’t interested in taking him, apparently, she lost custody a while back and doesn’t want to have to go through a fight to get the little boy in her care again.
He also knows Levi’s mom lost custody of Levi over a serious matter, and he suspects it’s because she’s a registered offender.
Levi has been placed in a foster home, and if nobody comes to get him, he’s going to become a ward of their state, where he will permanently be in the foster care system.

Anyway, Charlotte does have a relationship with Levi, and she absolutely adores him. Charlotte is devasted over the loss of her dad, and he imagines that if Charlotte can maintain a relationship with Levi, it will help her as she works through her grief. He also believes that if Levi can stay with Charlotte, that will help Levi too.
“The thing is, Kara absolutely loathes her ex,” he said. “Their split up was on pretty much the worst of terms, and their divorce was the messiest I’ve ever heard of.”
“She once told me that if it wasn’t for Charlotte, she would have moved across the country and never thought about him again. I’m worried that she won’t want to take in Levi because of his connection to her ex.”
“I don’t know to talk to Kara about potentially stepping up to take Levi in or if she might be gravely insulted if I brought this up. I know that Levi’s not technically mine or Kara’s problem, but he’s an innocent child, and Charlotte’s little brother, and I would feel guilty if I didn’t even try to take him in.”
What advice do you have for him?
