While At A Rest Stop On The Infamous Donner Pass In California, She Had A Horrifying Encounter With A Creepy, Smiling Man And A Woman She Believed Was A Ghost
A couple of months ago, this woman had a terrifying experience on the infamous Donner Pass in Truckee, California.
Donner Pass, well-known for the horrific Donner Party incident during the winter of 1846 to 1847, is considered to be haunted due to the years of violent, tragic deaths that have occurred there.
She grew up in Reno, Nevada, and went to Truckee countless times because the cities are so close. Up until recently, she had never encountered anything out of the ordinary on the Donner Pass.
Over the holidays, she and her fiancé celebrated Christmas with his family in Northern California. At 6:30 p.m., they left her in-laws’ house to begin their five-hour drive back home.
They stopped at a gas station in Yuba City, and she didn’t use the bathroom there. Later, she wished she had because she had to go to the bathroom, and all of the other gas stations on their drive were closed for Christmas.
At around 10:30 p.m. or 11 p.m., they reached Donner Pass, and she couldn’t hold it anymore. She thought that the closest rest stop was toward the bottom of the mountain pass, in Arco, but luckily, there was a rest stop at the top, so she didn’t have to wait as long as she’d originally thought.
It was a bit strange to her because since she’d driven on Donner Pass many times, she thought she would have remembered seeing this rest stop before.
From the moment that she and her fiancé stopped here, she was anxious. In the past, she traveled to Truckee for paranormal investigations, but she never felt this way before.
It was clear that she was in fight or flight mode, and it was tough to shake the nerves, but she had to go to the bathroom so badly that she needed to push her fears aside for the time being.

When they parked, there was only one other car in the parking lot, and while she couldn’t say definitively, she was pretty sure it was a blue Honda. If she hadn’t been so creeped out by the man standing next to the car, she would have tried to get a better look.
The man looked perfectly ordinary and didn’t seem to be doing anything strange, but she was on high alert as if she was prey and he was a potential threat. She had no idea why this stranger freaked her out since he wasn’t doing anything, but she assumed her nerves were due to being in a parking lot late at night.
As she walked up the reststop building to use the bathroom, she got closer to the man, and her anxiety escalated more and more with each passing step.
Eventually, she stopped walking so that her fiancé could catch up and walk ahead of her. However, when her fiancé caught up to her, he stopped, too, seemingly just as freaked out by the strange man. Finally, her fiancé continued walking, and she felt so grateful that she was with such a kind man.
The whole time she and her fiancé were walking from their car into the building, the man stared her fiancé down with a huge, menacing smile.
This made her fiancé uneasy, so he kept his keys in between his knuckles, ready to defend himself if the man became violent. After entering the building, the odd situation continued.
“As soon as we opened the doors, my vision became…strange. I tried focusing my eyes on the signs in the building, but no matter how hard I tried, my eyes just kept unfocusing themselves. It freaked me out, but I dismissed it on the long, dark drive contrasting with the bright lights in the building,” she said.
Despite her struggles to focus her eyes, she continued toward the bathrooms. The men’s bathrooms were to the left, and the women’s were to the right.
Both bathrooms had two separate doors each. She and her fiancé both entered the bathrooms, and she chose to walk through the door on the left side of the women’s bathrooms.
When she turned the corner into the bathroom, she noticed that the place was completely trashed. There were roughly three or four entire rolls of toilet paper unraveled and strewn all over the ground.
She rationalized that this could have been from people not in their right minds making a mess, and she entered a stall only to discover that the toilet was clogged. The second stall she checked was also clogged.
As she was about to try a third stall, she realized someone might be in there, so she backed away, feeling slightly nervous.
Then, she quickly peeked under the stall, and she could see a woman’s feet. The woman wore black shoes with tiny heels, and they had strange silver buckles.
It appeared as if the woman was drenched because she was dripping water all over the floor of the stall. The woman was standing in a huge puddle of water.
After she saw this, she felt even more terrified than before, so she hurried over to the other side of the bathroom to find a toilet that wasn’t clogged.
While walking by the mirrors on her way to a stall, she saw what looked like the reflection of a woman following her. The woman in the mirror looked to be her height, 5’2”, or a tad taller.
This mysterious woman had black hair and wore a white button-up turtleneck shirt. The woman’s black skirt was so long that she couldn’t see the whole thing because it was below the mirror’s reflection, and she was absolutely drenched.
“She had makeup on that looked like it was painted on by someone else. But the creepiest feature I saw was her eyes. I am not new to seeing the dead. The sensitivity runs in my family, but I have never seen a ghost that looked like this. Her eyes were greyed out, the way a corpse’s eyes do after a few hours of passing (I worked at a morgue a few years ago),” she explained.
Over the years, she has seen numerous ghosts, but whenever she’s encountered the paranormal before, the ghosts’ eyes look fairly ordinary.
However, this woman’s eyes looked like the eyes of the dead, like the eyes of the corpses she’d seen at the morgue, and it was horrifying. She immediately raced into one of the stalls, and once she was inside, she locked it.
“I heard her footsteps come up to the stall and I SAW the shoes I saw in the other stall from under my own stall, when, I CANNOT MAKE THIS UP, THIS WOMAN STARTED AGGRESSIVELY TRYING TO OPEN THE STALL. I was pulling back from the inside, and she was pulling back from the outside with the force of a living person, and then, suddenly, it stopped,” she shared.
Stunned and scared, she said aloud, “‘What the heck?'” before finally using the bathroom, after it seemed like the ghost was gone.
This was when she could hear someone loudly, quickly marching into the bathroom. She spotted a pair of brown, suede leather boots making their way toward her stall, and she was once again on pins and needles, nervous that another ghost had entered the bathroom.
Thankfully, when she came out of the stall, she discovered her fiancé was waiting for her. The strange man outside the rest stop had freaked him out so intensely that he wanted to make sure she wasn’t walking back out to the parking lot alone.
According to her fiancé, when he was done, he’d been waiting outside the bathrooms for her, and she said that she needed to leave so that they could go home.
He asked her who had been in the bathroom with her and why she’d said, “‘What the heck?'” because he could hear everything from outside the bathroom, and his acknowledgment of the ordeal made it more real for her.
In response, she explained that she had an encounter with a ghost, and they had to get out of there.
So, she and her fiancé exited the rest stop, and the creepy man was still standing outside his vehicle, staring them down as they walked past.
She momentarily looked down at the man’s shoes and instantly noticed that he wore the exact same brown, suede leather boots that she’d spotted in the bathroom before she opened the stall and saw her fiancé waiting for her.
Once the two of them were in their car and leaving the rest stop parking lot, her fiancé told her that the strange man looked and acted like a serial killer, adding, “‘He was looking at you like he was hunting you down.'”
Her fiancé was convinced that the man would be arrested one day, and they’d see him on the news during coverage of the horrific crimes he’d committed.
She told her fiancé all the details about her confrontation with the ghost, and he wondered if the man in the parking lot had harmed women in this bathroom before. He said that it was possible this woman was warning her about how dangerous this man was.
Also, her fiancé told her that his eyes struggled to focus when they entered the reststop building, just like hers did, but they both hypothesized that this was because they’d been in the dark and entered a building with bright lights, so their eyes had to adjust.
Since this incident, she can’t get the image of the ghostly woman’s face out of her mind, and she’s concerned that the creepy man hurt her and would hurt other women in the future.
As a veteran of the Marines, her fiancé isn’t easily frightened, and he’s been around many violent people and murderers over the years, so she took his words to heart when he said he could tell the creepy man was hoping to harm her.
