I don’t know about you, but whenever I’ve broken up with someone or had a situationship that went down the drain, most of my friends quickly encouraged me to get right back out there and live my best single life until the next great person comes along.

While I know they mean well, I think they underestimate or gloss over just how hard it is to feel the energy and the confidence to pick yourself up and get back into the world of dating and adventure after a breakup.

Because, let’s face it – breakups are energy zappers. They can make you feel exhausted, drained, and undesirable.

It can take a while for you not only to feel like yourself again after a breakup but also to be confident enough to enjoy yourself and go on living your best life. But if you’re feeling stuck, here are some tips to help you get there.

Allow yourself to be sad

Take a decent amount of time to feel sad about the end of your relationship and grieve it. The more you try to suppress any feelings of sadness, the harder it becomes for you to move on. Don’t let people pressure you into acting normal right away, and take some time to feel everything you need to feel.

Communicate with your friends and family

Let people know you’re having a hard time dealing with your breakup! So many people fear being seen as annoying or a burden when they vent about their breakups.

However, the people who love you most and want to see you succeed will want you to vent to them and help you through this. Tell your close friends and family that you’re struggling to feel like yourself again, and let them comfort you.
