This 40-year-old man and his ex-wife, 50, share a 10-year-old son and 19-year-old daughter. His ex has four other kids with other men (she had four sons, ages 24, 8, 6, and 3).
When he started dating his ex, her oldest son was 5, and he was a wonderful stepfather. He stayed in his former stepson’s life after he and his ex divorced.
He and his ex-wife have split custody of their two kids, and whenever he had custody, he allowed his former stepson to come along because he felt like he was his son. His ex’s younger sons don’t share the same father as her oldest.
“I planned a Disney trip for my youngest’s birthday. I’d be taking and paying for my stepson and two biological children. The total cost, including travel, accommodations, and food, will be at least $12,000. This trip is something I’ve saved up for for months,” he said.
His ex-wife was excited about the plan, but she told him his son’s half-brothers would be envious that they were being left out. She asked if he could take her three other sons on the Disney vacation, including her youngest.
In his opinion, it was a lot of her to ask him to take her children across the country and foot the bill. During the conversation, she told him she’d love to go with him but would enjoy having her house to herself without her kids for a few days.
In response, he said she was insane and rejected her suggestion that he bring her children on the trip.
“I would be the only real adult there, aside from my 19-year-old daughter and 24-year-old stepson. I’m not going to ask them to spend their vacation babysitting. Our son had a birthday party before planning this trip, and his three half-brothers were all invited and present,” he explained.
He paid for the entire party and allowed his son’s half-brothers to stay at his house all weekend because his ex-wife told him she was working more hours and couldn’t watch them. In reality, she went drinking.
